Tax Grievance- Can someone explain....
how it works???
Ok, so when we bought our house everyone (realtor, people from the bank, even inspectors) kept telling us we needed to grieve our taxes...
House was accessed at a value over 100k what we paid and what the house recently appraised for...
Ok- so we fill out papers with Mark Lewis last February 2011- a month later get a letter saying he accepted the case, then maybe 2-3 months after that saying the case was lost and that they would fight it (or something of this nature)- its been over a year and we have heard NOTHING.... so is it over? Do we file again?
A friend of mine says the same happened to her; and that she had forgotten alll about it, and just shy of 2 years after she filed, she got a check in the mail for whatever the won, minus half (the fee owed to Mark Lewis).....while it would be nice to just get a random check in the mail, it doesnt seem like it works like this....
Anyone have experience care to share?

It can take a while, but you can call their offices for a status. I did this once and they were happy to help! Ours took just shy of one year from start to finish, but I know others have taken longer.
However you don't get a check mailed to you--you get an adjusted tax bill. Then a bill from Mark Lewis

Re: Tax Grievance- Can someone explain....
The Suffolk county courts are extremely backed up with tax grievances. This is what I can piecemeal: you filed a grievance for the 2011/12 tax year in May of 2011. The grievance was denied and a SCAR petition was filed in July of 2011.
So it is possible that your case has not had a hearing yet. Call the grievance company and ask for the status.
Oh and because of the grievance/tax bill calendar at this point if your case hasn't been resolved yet, you will receive a refund.
If the case has been resolved but you're waiting for the paperwork to catch up, your second half tax bill (due 5/31) might have a credit on it for the overpayment.
