TDap at hospital post delivery?
It's the first I'm hearing about this but my nurse just informed me that anyone in close contact with the twins (parents, grandparents, siblings, etc) should receive the tdap shot?
What's the scoop? FTM here.

TDap at hospital post delivery?
It is mandatory in ny state that the pertussis (or tdap) shot is offered to new moms. They don't have to get it, buts it requires it's offered.
I had mine done while I was in the hospital and so did dh. I also asked grandparents to get it from their regular doctors. It is suggested that anybody close to the baby, nanny included, get it.

TDap at hospital post delivery?
Both DH and I got it, me before I got pg, DH while I was PG. My whole immediate family got it but DHs family did not. As someone who had whooping cough as an adult, it was very important to me to get it.

TDap at hospital post delivery?
It is recommended that everyone in close contact with the baby get it. I had it while pregnant.

Thanks so much for confirming. I was just in shock that I had never heard of it until now.

TDap at hospital post delivery?
I got it in the hospital the day after I delivered DD. My DH and the grandparents got it before she was born.

TDap at hospital post delivery?
Editing again: i looked it up on the CDC website and they recommend getting tdap for each pregnancy. They actually have an optimal time during your pregnancy to get it. Tried to post a link. Not sure if it will work.

Re: TDap at hospital post delivery?
They can't require everyone to have it. My brother is allergic to it and had a very serious reaction as a child. You just have to be careful. I believe they drew titers for me at the 8 week appt., because I found out I am not immunized against chicken pox anymore.

Re: TDap at hospital post delivery?
My OB recommended that I get it at 32 weeks, so the baby gets it too and that those close to the baby (DH, grandparents, etc).

If you've had a tetanus shot, you probably got the tdap. Otherwise, if you haven't been immunized since you were a child, you're immunity may have decreased. It has been recommended that adults get a booster to protect their infants. It sounds like a good idea (especially since twins are usually born early), but I don't think it's been proven to work. There actually was a recent FDA study on animals that showed you can still become infected with pertussis bacteria if you've had the vaccine and show no signs of being sick, but you can still transmit it to others for about 6 weeks after infection. So, while you will get protection, you can't rely on it to protect your child. We try to limit the baby's visitors in the early weeks to close family. And everyone washes hands and we ask people not to kiss baby's face or hands. Not everyone remembers about the kissing, but we try.
ETA: I don't remember it being offered for my last pregnancy (maybe they asked about tetanus shots-I'm pretty clumsy, so I was probably immune still).
I dont think this is the case actually. Not all Tetnus shots are the TDAP you need to specifically ask for it.
I got the shot right after DD was born and so did DH and the grandparents.
I will get it again at my 34 week appt this week. DH and grandparents will be getting it again as well. But they have to specifically ask their dr for the TDAP one

TDap at hospital post delivery?
When I was pregnant with our first, our GP strongly suggested everyone in the household get it. I got mine shortly after DS was born.

Hmmm... maybe they did my titers then. Anyway, I think I need one this time.
