teachers-homework question
HOw do you do HW in your class? I teach 1st grade. I do a HW sheet on Monday for the week and it is all due Friday. I know others who assign each night and kids hand it in daily. What's your policy?

Re: teachers-homework question
I teach 7th grade math. Prior to their state assessment in March I assigned HW Monday - Thursday (usually individual assignments). After the assessment, just 2-3 times a week.

Re: teachers-homework question
I do it night by night and collect it the next day. I have done HW sheets in the past (everything assigned Monday and due on the remaining days of the week). But this year my kids (sixth graders) complained that HW sheets made them feel like they were in 3rd grade! So I didn't do them. But next year I will- I have such organizational issues that I need to be a lot more structured.

Re: teachers-homework question
I give daily homework, 1 reading and 1 math. Plus there's a weekly spelling packet. I also teach first grade.
(I may be changing this for next year, but not sure!)

Re: teachers-homework question
i find that I 'm not super organized, nor do I always have time in the day to check the HW daily. Kids are also so busy nowadays (sports, etc)that it gives them the chance to spread out the workload over the week. It worked out well this year. I'm just trying too get ideas for nex year.

I am not a teacher but I just have to say that when I was a kid I LOVED teachers who did this!! I had dance 3x's a week, gymnastics, and of course family stuff so some teachers would pile the work on every night and I would be up wayyy later then I should have trying to get everything done and then I couldn't get out of bed the next day.
I loved it this way I would do everything the first day or the day I had off from my other stuff and not have to worry about it again.

Re: teachers-homework question
I give homework daily- Monday thru Thursday... I dont give typical worksheets. I try to make up fun assignments that review the work for the day. Even for Spelling.

Re: teachers-homework question
I teach 1st grade and they have HW every night, including weekends. We have some kind of word work to prepare for the weekly spelling test, a math sheet or 2, a literacy sheet and possibly something else. On top of that, they must read for 20 minutes and then log. Is it a lot? Yes, but I'd hear from the parents if I didn't give it.

Re: teachers-homework question
I teach first grade and give homework M-F, I give spelling homework with word families like Mon-3 x's each Tues- Sentences 1-7 Wed. Sent 8-14 Thurs-study for test tomorrow I also give review of work done in class with a practice book page that reinforces the days work. CVC patterns or nouns etc. I also give a review math sheet. Some parents complained too much others complained too little. You can never please em'
In sept. I will modify work for levels such as higher and lower leveled homework.
I hope this helps. FM me if you need anything.

Re: teachers-homework question
I taught 8th grade math and I used a stamp sheet.
I don't post HW in advance because sometimes things change so to say Monday what we are doing Friday could change based on if the students understood the lesson.
Every week though I give them a 1/2 sheet of paper. They get between 0 and 5 points for completed homework, and either 0 or 5 points for bringing a calculator with them.
At the end of a full-week it should be an easy 50 points towards HW/participation.
Those that do their HW, make the effort to come to class prepared but get caught up on quizzes/tests like it because it helps them out a little. Not enough to significantly change anything but enough to go from that C to B.

Re: teachers-homework question
I'm not a teacher but a HS guidance counselor. From my perspective, it's good to get them in the habit of daily assignments at the lower levels. It won't seem so overwhelming later on.
