Teachers-peanut allergies?
Do you have any peanut policies because there are so many allergies lately? I have a few in my class and it is very frustrating when we have parties w/ food.

Re: Teachers-peanut allergies?
Any kids who bring in peanut products for snack have to sit at a seperate table in the classroom, away from the kids with the allergies. They was their hands immediately after and we wipe down the table. Any parents that want to bring in anything for the class have to call the parents of the kids with the allergies to clear it first. It is nerve wracking.

Re: Teachers-peanut allergies?
I can't believe how bad peanut allergies are! Why are they so bad now? I don't remember it used to being this way.
I made pumpkin bread for my class today for our celebration and I didn't put any nuts in it...
Yet a student in my class had a reaction (very mild) because of the nutmeg in the bread.
I didn't even think of nutmeg as a nut ---- even though the name would say that --- I didn't even think of it since I always use powder.

Yea, we are actually not allowed to have any homemade treats, nothing without a label. Now the problem is so many things have things like "processed on the same equipment with peanuts", etc. I feel very uncomfortable serving these even to the kids w/out allergies because I am neurotic & because I feel bad for those kids w/ the allergy. I would be happy if NO food was served in the classroom, it honestly stresses me out

My son's pre- school is a peanut free school. We are not allowed to send ANYTHING that says may contain peanuts.

Re: Teachers-peanut allergies?
I have had kids in my class who are:
1) allergic to peanuts 2) on a gluten free diet 3) allergic to chocolate 4) lactose intolerant 5) kosher 6) and just plain picky about everything
Sometimes I ask the parents of the children with special dietary needs to provide the special foods or snacks in advance. In the event that we have an impromptu party, the child always has something. Some parents are very good about it.

My friends daughter goes to a school like that in NJ.
I cant imagine how hard that is for teachers to deal with!

Re: Teachers-peanut allergies?
They are not allowed to eat anything that any other children bring that is brought in from home. I have to say that the kids and parents are great with this. I usually have the parents of those children send in a bag with treats etc. that THEY sned in from home and I keep it in my closet so when birthdays and parties come up, they can still have something special.
