teachers... read this!!! Especially NYC!!
i found out yesterday in our grade meeting that they are going to collapse my class due to having a low register. I have 21 and can have up to 32. some of the other classes have 22, 23, 24 and so on...
they said they will do it after the holidays.
I have no idea what they are planning on doing with me. I am hoping AIS. I do NOT want to do coverages.
My question is WHY are they doing this??? Its december already???
I spoke to my AP and she said my class is easiest to collapse since I am going out on maternity.
but something is rubbing me the wrong way.. I don't know how I feel or what they are going to do with my classroom. I may have to pack up and take everything home 8 mos pregnant!!!
on top of this i am currently a candidate for the national boards where I have to do two videos and 2 case studies on my class!! i told my ap this is a concern and to please hold off on collapsing my class until i can do one video ( ithas to be a whole class video).
I don't need this stress and uncertainty. Please share your thoughts... is this discrimination? do i have any rights here?? my uft rep says they are not doing anything worng, i am not getting fired or excessed. but i just don't like the way i feel.
please help

So sorry to hear that! Im surprised they would do that mid-year! It does seem kinda strange. That happened at my school last year but it was in June for the following year. Maybe it has something to do with saving money!?

They aren't saving any money. i am still getting my salary.
I have a call out to the maternity rep anyway so I will ask her.
My ap said that when they add up all the numbers of kids in the grade, it makes no sense to have as many classses as we do.
meanwhile isn't having smaller classes a better learning environment for the kids??
