teachers....maternity question & time off
How long is maternity leave? And if holidays fall during your time off, does it count as part of the leave?
THANK YOU!

Re: teachers....maternity question & time off
I am not a teacher but my sister in law is and we just had this discussion. She only gets what time she has accumulated in her sick leave, if holiday falls in the middle of maternity leave the holiday is given to you and that sick day is used toward another day.

Re: teachers....maternity question & time off
When I had DD I used sick time and was covered from March until the end of June. My district was very flexible w/ me. I had a c-section and was initially given 8 weeks then I had a drs. note that required me to stay home (they never asked to see the note).
I have heard other stories even w/in my district. I think by law you are entitled to 6 weeks for a regular birth and 8 weeks for a c-section. I don't think the district is required to pay you for any of this time but I believe they will allow you to use sick time if you have it.
Oh and only school days count. You don't lose time for holidays.

This is how it is in my district.

Re: teachers....maternity question & time off
Check your contract for time allowed off, and dont forget about FMLA...while it is unpaid, every person is entitled to it. Your contract will state whether your district runs it con currently with leave or not. (In some districts, they will allow you to use them one after another..FMLA then sick days) HTH
