teaching cert another state
if you hold a nys perm cert
how do you go about getting one for other states?
do you have to take a test?

When I got a certificate for California I did have to take a short test, show proof of my NY license and get fingerprinted again. This was however in 1997 so I'm not sure if the rules have changed.

Some states have reciprocity. I had prof. certification in MD. As long as I had been teaching 5 years, NY automatically gave me certification for 2 years, and then within those 2 years I had to take the necessary tests for NY.

I had NY certification and moved to the DC area. I first got a job in MD and they (the school district) paid to get my MD certification, I didn't need to take any tests or do anything. Then 2 yrs later I moved to VA, and the same thing, since I was certified in NY and MD, the school district paid to get my certification no tests or anything required. So I am now certified in 3 states.

this was the same for me in CA in 2003
