Teeth/Gum Cleaning
ok, DS should be cutting his first tooth anyday now (you can feel them and its all swollen and purple). You can see the whites pushing through.
My question is, when do you start "brushing" your DC's teeth? Do you, what do you use?
Thanks!

Re: Teeth/Gum Cleaning
We started when DS was about 12-14 months old.
There are little brushes and toddler toothpaste (no flouride)

I have been brushing and washing his gums since the day I brought him home. (even before he had teeth) Now he has teeth I brush with the non flouride toothpaste.

Re: Teeth/Gum Cleaning
When they have very few teeth, the brushes you put on your finger are good, or you can just use a washcloth. As they get more teeth and their jaws get stronger, this isn't a good idea and you'll need a brush (or risk losing a finger)! But in the beginning either is fine.
You can try the non fluoride toopaste, but they really don't need it. Water is fine. We started using the toothpaste when DS got older and noticed that we use toothpaste when we brush.

how and what did you use? I've never heard of doing it from birth. I thought you only started once teeth broke through because their gums are so sensitive and harsh washing & brushing could cause irritation.

Re: Teeth/Gum Cleaning
I have been using this finger brush since DS cut his first tooth:
I just use water for now. I just want to make sure his teeth don't have any formula residu on them before he goes to bed.
I have the oral b infant paste that I'm going to start using after he turns a year.
