Re: tell me about lasik eye surgery
My DH went to Diamond Vision. He paid $2700. Insurance didn't cover it but he used money from a flexible spending account. There is room to haggle after they give you a quote. He had some discomfort for one day but his vision was 20/20 the next day.

Re: tell me about lasik eye surgery
I paid somewhere around $4k. Insurance did not pay anything. It was terrifying, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat - SO worth it.
My recovery took a little longer than most people's, because my vision was quite bad to begin with. There was an immediate improvement in vision, but it took me 4-5 days to see 20/20. At the time I was a little worried that I'd need another surgery since I'd heard so many other people say they could see perfectly right afterwards, or within 24 hours, but it did get there within a week, and my vision is still 20/20 4 years later. It also took me several months before my night vision was back to normal. I would see "halos" off the streetlights, so I couldn't drive in the dark for a while.
You have to wear goggles to bed for a week or so (so you don't rub or poke your eyes in your sleep), and use eyedrops frequently (I think for a few months if memory serves?) and be very careful around your eyes, but it doesn't actually hurt afterwards.

Re: tell me about lasik eye surgery
DH was going to do this until we found out from my friend who is an Optometrist that when you hit 40 you will probably need reading glasses..so many folks do when they get in their 40's and Lasik doesn't help that.
he hates his glasses but I'm trying to get him to wear contacts.
many people are happy with the result.

Re: tell me about lasik eye surgery
I paid $1800 per eye plus another $1K for custom mapping at TLC in Garden City done by Dr Donnenfeld (in 2004)
My eyes were itchy feeling the next day but by Monday I was fine & back to work (I had it done on a Friday).

Your DH might want to look into monovision. He could have LASIK and not fully correct one eye. In most cases, that eye will retain the strength necessary for close up reading. FM me for more info.
As for the OP's question, the only time I have heard of insurance paying for LASIK was when the plan specifically said that it would or when a plan has a discount program.

Re: tell me about lasik eye surgery
I worked in an office that did these and there was no insurance that would cover it. Some jobs did the flex spending for it, some gave 10% discounts, but hardly none. Everyone I know has had amazing success. My mom, SIL, and an Uncle had it done.
