Re: Tell me what town you live in and why you love it.....
I live in islip terrace. I have to say, there isnt much that i love about it accept the property. A lot of places we looked didnt have nice size property. the area is decent, but i grew up on the water in babylon, so when i bought a house in IT i felt like it was a step down. But its affordable, good schools, and nice property. So all thought i dont "love" it, its a good stepping stone for us and our family.

I live in Park Slope. I grew up in Midwood, Brooklyn and have lived in Canarsie, Williamsburg and Seagate before movig here. It is definitely my favorite Brooklyn neighborhood.
DH and I currently rent a stabilized 1.5 bedroom apartment in a very nice part of Park Slope. We would consider being life long renters just to stay in this neighborhood.
There is a sense of community, convenience, progressive thinking, child-centered, adult interests, subways and buses, 24 hour everything, Prospect Park and I can go on and on....
Growing up in Brooklyn, I sometimes think, why would I pay 750K for a small 2 bedroom condo or co-op when I can get an entire house for 500K else where and then I think of my DD and all of the wonderful exposure she has in this diverse, eclectic, sometimes annoying neighborhood.
My Brooklyn friends always tease me and call me a snob for moving here, but I wouldn't give it up unless there was something HUGE looming.
Just to add, I have no plans on moving to LI or any suburbs. DH is from suburban CT and has no desire to go back, which I am extremely grateful for. I am truly a Brooklyn girl.
my sister and aunt live in park slope. where ru?? my aunt is in a rent control apartment too; lucky!!! i love it there its so nice! fm me!

I also think it's a central location from NYC to Montauk, the school district is rated VERY well, the town programs are good and I think shopping, restaurants, mall, all that are very close.
Ditto...we live in Smithtown and we love it. Close proxilty to highways, North/South shore beaches, malls and many top rated restaraunts in town.

we live in Levittown, and just love the convenience of everything around. the town itself has a wonderful community, schools are great, and its affordable. Hemp Tpke is right there, along with major parkways nearby.. and LIRR close too. i love it overall, and have no complaints! we live on such a quiet street too and love the neighbors!

North Massapequa and we love it!
Grew up in Bethpage and work in Seaford so the convenience has been super helpful, a DD that has to go to moms everyday and still close to home where I grew up.
Love the area, the people, neighbors around us. We are literally in between the SOB 135 and SSP and close to everything whether its on Hempstead Tpke or Sunrise Hwy.
Our SD I have yet to experience but I hear its good and they do provide a full day of Kindergardten.
I love seeing kids everywhere playing and families outside doing yard work....nice big yards and decent sized homes.

I live in Mattituck, on the North Fork of Long Island. I love it. I came to live out here because of my DH. He was born here and grew up here, as did his entire extended family. We're renting now, but do intend to buy. Living here, I always feel like I'm on vacation. I work 40 minutes west, and on my drive home, I always feel my stress level decrease the further east I drive. I forget about work on the weekends, and rarely go west of Riverhead (or as they say out here "up island") until the weekend is over. Actually I'm on summer vacation now (I'm a teacher), and I haven't been west of Riverhead in 2 weeks! We're surrounded by wineries, farms, local businesses, and great restaurants. We're nestled between the bay and the sound, and I see water daily. We have Love Lane which is a quaint main street, and truely looks like it is a set of a movie. We know people everywhere we go and feel a strong sense of community. Greenport is a 15 minute drive away. Riverhead and the Tanger Outlets are also 15-20 minutes away. I never thought in a million years that I would live this far out east, but now that I'm here, I can't imagine life any different.
ooo, this sounds so nice. You are so lucky!!

Oakdale- small town and decent SD (Connetquot) Near everything. 2 minutes form town pool 15 minutes from Robert Moses, 2 minutes form Sayville (in town) so we are near cute shops and nice resturants. Oakdale and Sayville both have marinas so we are right by the water as well.

I live in North Flushing, Queens. That's pretty much on the borders of Whitestone and Bayside.
I think people who come from/live in the boroughs take a lot of pride in that fact. As residential as my area is, we're still in the city, KWIM...and I love that.
As for my particular neighborhood... The houses are unbelievable. I don't think a lot of people realize this area even exists and newcomers are totally surprised at how spectacular they are. (Well, not mine, but...) Our neighborhood is a designated historic district and I know it was trying for landmark status.
I can walk to so many things: drugstores, library, pizzeria, nail salon, McDonalds, IHOP, church etc. etc. etc. The LIRR is about .5 of a mile away (and only 20 min. to NYC) and I am a couple of houses down from a park.
There are a ton of restaurants and bars minutes away.
LOW taxes!
And best of all...my parents and ILs live within 1.5 miles of us...free babysitting!
Ooohh I have never heard of this area, I am going to have to check it out - I love going to new neighborhoods in Queens! They are all so unique!

Re: Tell me what town you live in and why you love it.....
We live in Setauket.
We LOVE it. We joke that we wished we never drove there (it is far from our jobs), but as soon as we saw it we fell in love and didn't want to live anywhere else!
We have a half acre of land, taxes arent too bad compared to other towns, close to Port Jeff, our neighbors are really nice, and our block as a handful of young owners fixing up the their houses, kids always playing/riding bikes. The SD is outstanding and housing prices seem to have been holding pretty well bc its close to Suny SB. Close to shopping too!
The ONLY downside is that it is far from the LIE and 347 stinks during rush hour.

I live in Bayside, Queens. I've been in my current apartment since 2001 and lived in bayside for about 13 years.
The transportation is great.. The LIRR station is walking distance from my apartment. It is an express stop so the ride to Penn is usually less then 25 miuntes. The train doesn't go through Jamiaca so we escape delays caused by main line problems. There are express buses to Manhattan plus local buses to other parts of Queens and Nassau.
There is easy access to a couple of highways. I am between the Cross Island and Clearview - the LIE is less then a mile away.
I am a few blocks from Bell & Northern so all of this is within walking distance:
~over a dozen restaurants with all types of cuisine (American, Italian, Steakhouse, Greek, Japanease Hibachi, Thai, Cajun, Mexican, tapas, diner plus take out pizza, chinese, tacos, bagels, bakery, deli, etc).
~a ton of bars - at least two with dancing, a couple with outdoor patios.
~gift stores, small clothing stores, drugstores, butcher, produce stores, a small grocery store, staples, hair & nail places, several different banks.
There's really so much here!
Bay Terrace shopping plaza is two miles away - lots of shops, movie theater, restaurants.
I believe it's a good school district but I am not familiar with it at all.
I lived in Bayside for 5 years and couldn't agree more. Bayside is a great town!

Re: Tell me what town you live in and why you love it.....
We live in North Massapequa, I love how close we are to the southern state and the 135, its about a half mile, and we are close to the wantagh as well, which is usually empty and i can get to the mall in 15 minutes.
I love my area, my neighbors are very nice, helpful and everyone looks out for eachother. I love living here, there are tons of stores all around, and great places to eat that are very close to me. DH's office is down the road, so its great because we both have less than a mile commute there.
Everyone on my block keeps their houses very nice, and everyone is always having work done on their houses to improve in anyway they can. It seems every since DH redid our house, everyone else is always trying to do things to improve theirs as well, and its a good feeling.
I hope we never move, and that our area stays the way it is because its perfect. I have no complaints, would live here forever.

Re: Tell me what town you live in and why you love it.....
Can I play even though I now live in South Florida?
I lived in Hampton Bays, NY, and I would recommend it in a flash! The only reason we moved is because we owned in S. Florida and it made no sense to rent in NY anymore.
I loved the fact that in the summer, it was always like you left work and came home to vacation-such a lovely town, close to lots of great shopping in Southampton. amazing restaurants, and you are right on the beach. Our old house overlooked the water and it was beautiful! We also were right off of Sunrise Hwy, so it was easy to get around.
If we moved back to NY, I would buy there in a flash!

I couldn't agree more about what you said. I was born & raised in Whitestone and am still in this area. My family lives a few blocks from Bowne Park in North Flushing.
The homes are truly beautiful - wish we could afford one - $$$$$. The area is safe, quiet & well maintained.
Its a great area as far as shopping, resturants & commuting into the city, but it has the suburban feel.

I was raised in Seaford and my DH and I bought our first home in Seaford. We love the area - we are close the water and to the parks. The schools are good, people keep their houses pretty well maintained and its nice and quiet.
We love the Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh-Seaford-Massapequa area.
