Re: Termites? How would I know?
This sounds gross, but kill one and keep it in an envelope.
call up an exterminating company to get an estimate and show it to them and ask them what it is.
Termites and flying ants (which sounds like what you have) look VERY similar.

eta: Termites drop their wings then start to burrow into the wood of your house.

Re: Termites? How would I know?
Id have someone come in. My sister's house was completely termite ridden and destroyed. Now her entire downstairs has to be redone. There is a reason why all houses are to have termite inspections when purchased. Our new home has isolated and treated damage and we made sure it did not spread before we signed on the dotted line.

Re: Termites? How would I know?
She was having other work done and a contractor picked upon it. Now she has ZERO walls in her entire downstairs because they had tobe torn down and restored. She is lucky that her whole house did not collapse.

so its safe to say that if I had an adjacent room completely remodeled with no sign of termite damage, that my house will not be falling down in the near future?
I have surburban extirminating coming next saturday to take a look...I am freaking out right now!!!!

I have suburban coming tomorrow. I have termite damage but see no active ones.
My SIL says they fly into her house through sliding back doors.

Do you have a basement? My dad had termite treatment 3 years in a row and even after the first 2 years they treated, on the third year he wound up having to put up a whole new wall in the living room. He is on a slab foundation so there was no way to tell the damage. If you have a basement I would go down there and look around for any signs of damage to the wood but definitely have someone come look

From what I can see from the wood planks in the basement, I see no obvious signs of damage. I will look in the garage this weekend. I have surburban coming next weekend.
we will be remodelng the room with where we saw the swarm as well as the basement by next year.
