Re: Terror threat for LIRR/NYC subways!

I read that. It's so vague though.
I mean it's good that they are on top of these things... but I wouldn't worry at this point. It's good to get people to be more vigilant though!

My DH called to tell me about this - he's in the security industry and of course they take these threats very seriously. I'm Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon that nothing happens! I just wanted to make sure people were aware...

If you think about it... if there wasn't really something serious going on they would shut Penn down.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm heading out around 3PM today on the E train then the LIRR. There was a large police presence this AM so I imagine the same will occur in the PM today.

Yikes. That's one of the more strongly worded warnings I've seen in a while.

Looks like I am taking that ride home I was offered. If we hit a lot of traffic, so be it.

I am close to Penn - there were a lot of sirens before and there are helipcopters in the area.

I am sure they are just being extra cautious at this point. If Penn was closed it would be breaking news.

I hope everyone gets home safely! Chat Icon

That's disgusting. People take their kids to the city around the holidays.

It so upsetting that we have to live like this. I can't imagine hating someone so much that I would strap a bomb to myself. What a sad and disturbed group of people.

It is scary - I am home on disability but I ride the LIRR and work right above Penn Station.
DH also rides the train. It is just terrible we have to live in these times.

That explains all of the police officers on my train this morning. I assumed it was something like this.

Strange how a large police presence makes me feel more uneasy.

Barb, I know what you mean...

I have actually seen them in increased capacity this past week and a half. There were ARMY people at the 34th street/Herald Square Subway station AND at 42nd Street since last week...THAT frightened me as I have never seen that...I have worked in and around Times Square since 1999.

oh just great.. why couldn't i have read this when i was already home and not about to leave to go to Penn??

There is no way i'm going to Penn now.. i just can't. I'm already getting anxious just sitting here thinking about it. DAMN DAMN DAMN
I'm downtown so i'm thinking of taking the train to Flatbush and going home from there..

this is the one thing that i'm absolutely terrified of.. being trapped in Penn when something happens.

I thought I had read somewhere today that there was a suspected terrorist attack (India correct?)

I agree- and if you read it they said they aren't saying it even got out of the planning stages... they have to take these things seriously- even talk- but it doesn't mean it's happening.

And nowhere did it say today....

I'm 100% with you. There are too many evil people poised and able to do major harm and too many sights set on NYC. It's really hard to feel safe in crowds in the city--or on big travek days, etc. I don't feel safe today...
