Thank you card spinoff
I was reading the wedding thank you thread and saw several references made to having a year to send a thank you.
Where does that information come from?
All ettiquette references I have seen regarding thank you cards has always been that they should be sent out as soon as possible. (I know in this area it's customary to take a little longer then other parts of the country because of the picture.)

Re: Thank you card spinoff
what ive heard is to send it out as soon as possilbe. The latest at 6 months.
Guests have up to a year to send you a gift.

Re: Thank you card spinoff
I'm with you. I've never heard that it was acceptable to wait up to a year to thank someone for giving you a gift.
I'll even go so far as to say that it's rude to wait that long. How hard is it to set aside an hour a night to write out some TY's to people that were generous enough to give you a gift?

Re: Thank you card spinoff
The TY note needs to go out ASAP once the gift is recieved. Even though some guests take 2 years to send the gift.

Re: Thank you card spinoff
I think 6-8 months seems okay...it takes awhile to get proofs, then pick your picture, then get your picture, then write the cards and mail the cards.... most people in "this neck of the woods" realize it takes longer... a year might be pushing it, but I wouldnt say it is completely unreasonable, esp. if something happened with someone's proofs/photographer or what not

Re: Thank you card spinoff
I too have never heard the year thing. I personally think 6 months is enough for a thank you. I mean people come from out of town, spend money on flights, hotel, gifts, their outfits..... At least one can do is send a measly thank you, no??? I'm bitter It's happening way too much with friends and family where they think it's ok to not even send anything anymore or send it out a year later. I think it's rude. JMPO though...

I think a year is too long, JMO.
I got mine out pretty quickly... less than 2 months after my wedding.

I think it's rude also. As far as I can recall, no one has waited a year or even 2 weeks to cash my check, I shouldn't have to wait a year to get a thank you.
I know the picture thing can take a while but at some point they should go out even if it means using a non-professional picture.

Re: Thank you card spinoff
I really dont know why it takes so long....we had our proofs 3 weeks after we got married and we picked out a picture and a week later had our thank you pics. In the meanwhile, I wrote out all the thank you cards and all I had to do was put the picture in the card and seal the envelope

Re: Thank you card spinoff
I will say that it took longer than I expected it to take me to get my wedding thank you's out. I wanted to write a personalized thank you and it takes a LONG time to make each card special.
That being said I still got them all out within 3 1/2 months of the wedding. I think a year is really stretching it. It's like...why bother after that long?

Exactly. Or just send the TY out w/out a photo...I mean, unless the person is family or my best friend, I don't display wedding TY photo's so I don't really care about the photo. Chances are I brought my own camera to the shindig anyway.

Re: Thank you card spinoff
I think a year is way too long.. unless you have certain circumstances then ok.. I admit it is time consuming to write out a personal not in each and every thank you but you can set aside some time a couple of nights a week and really bang them out!!

Re: Thank you card spinoff
I got married November 5th of last year. My thank yous went out in August.
I actually got a lot of comments from people about how heart felt each one was.
I must be a terrible person.

Re: Thank you card spinoff
The year thing is incorrect - plain and simple. I'm sure a lot of people believe it because they've heard that you have a year to send a gift and probably applied that rule to both things.
I was horribly late with my thank yous but only half my guests even realized it. This one-year rule comes in handy when people don't know etiquette!
