A "thank you" card-How do u feel
about receiving them? Mandatory?.......and if not hand written, impersonal?
Im venting right now. I was asked to be a godmother in Sept. Christening came and went. My godson is my nephew. I puchased gifts, Not a gift and I came home yesterday ( i live below my parents) to find a thank you from my BIL/SIL and well, not one for me. Im a little pee'd right now!!!
Also, typed out. Basically everyone is getting the same thank you as they did.

they are 100% necessary AND they MUST be hand written And they must refer to the person AND the gift that was received.

I agree. Was the one note addressed to you and your parents? Of course you should receive your own TY. Maybe yours will come tomorrow... Otherwise - EXTREMELY rude, and if it were me, the nephew would not receive another gift.

I think a personalized, handwritten note is mandatory, especially for a gift or if someone went out of their way to do something nice for you.

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel
I say it depends on the relationship. If it's for something like this, you being the Godmother -- I definitely think you should get a personal, handwritten thank you. DH and I are Godparents to my nephew, she actually wrote us a card, got us a gift certificate to a restaurant and a little plaque with a Godparents poem. It was really nice, although not necessary. The poem was certainly enough and I loved it!

Ugh - this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine DON'T bother sending a Thank You if you're not going to write it yourself - I can do w/out the printed card, printed signature and printed envelope - Save the $0.37 !!

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel
On Monday, I received a photo TY card (no handwriting at all) for a christening we went to in MARCH.
Next week, I expect to receive an invite to the same baby's first birthday party.
People are people.

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel
As I sit home tonight and write mine from my baby shower, I will hand writing them, including the gift received, plus a special thank you for attending the party.
As the Godmother, you would get even more from me. What dorks!

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel
Absolutely necessary....send them all the time. I have even printed them off the computer individually. So that each message is for the person getting the card - my handwriting is horrible.

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel
I think you should get your own TY & they should be hand written NOT typed. Of course I am terrible and never have sent TY's within my family other than wedding related but I ALWAYS send a TY to my MIL & FIL. They are older and always are very generous as well as my MIL being a bit of the proper older Scottish woman and she has sent us TY notes many times.

I think preprinted TYs are very impersonal. My friend just got one from a wedding that she attended!
As far as your TY from the christening, sometimes the mail is weird. Maybe it's on its way.

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel
I'm in the minority here.
While I do think they are necessary, I don't think that they NEED to be handwritten.
If the sentiment is true, then what is the big deal with handwriting or printing them?
I had pre-printed Thank You's for my wedding and then wrote a little note on the other flap to the people that I am close with.
I don't feel like I wasn't sincere or I was slighting them in any way.

See what u just said....adding that extra note took an extra step.
I expect a written thank you for what I did and gave that day....I was asked and honored to be a godmother.
I dont want a pre printed card that was given to everyone else who attended.
At this point I'll even take that...at least I know what I did was appreciated and not EXPECTED!

Re: A "thank you" card-How do u feel
thank yous are mandatory and should be handwritten...
I am still peeved about giving a shower gift, not getting a thank you card...the wedding already came and went (we did get one for that-sort of-it was a strange one)
