Thank you notes

When you have already written a thank you and then the person gives you another gift, do you write a similar thank you card, or do you acknowledge the gift in a different way? Thanks

I feel like I am always sending thank you cards. Sometimes I send them from me and other times from DD. I try to switch it up if it's a thank you to someone I've already thanked for something, then I write it just from DD. I don't know that it's always necessary--I just feel like it's the right thing to do.
