Re: Anyone familiar with Farmingdale LI?

I grew up here and still live here. You're going to get very mixed reviews on Fdale. Some areas are nicer than others. It's typical middle class, somewhat diverse. Feel frr to ask any questions!

Re: Anyone familiar with Farmingdale LI?

my best friend bought her first house in farmingdale a couple of years ago. She grew up in deer park and her husband is a famingdale native.
She likes it. Her neighborhood is cute, mostly small, older homes.
Its very convenient as a far as shopping goes, its also easy to get to all of the highways. They seem to have a lot of events in the little town area which is nice.
I suggest that you spend a lot of time in any town you're considering buying in. Visit during different times, days of the week. Go to the library, shop in the local stores.
LIF can be pretty harsh with opinions on towns but I don't think its always justified.
What is a comfortable fit for one family might not be comfortable at all for another.
Good luck!

I did too! Actually, there are quite a few of Farmingdale ladies on LIF. I just recently passed by my old neighborhood and sighed. (We moved to Suffolk) I wouldn't hesitate to move back at all. I have wonderful memories from childhood and as an adult but even more wonderful neighbors whom I still keep in contact with.

Lots of luck!

Anyone familiar with Farmingdale LI?

I moved to Fdale 3 years ago. It was nto our first choice of towns but now that we are here I love it. I have some of the friendliest neighbors. I commute into the city and I think the train schedule is great.

I'm over on the east side.

I am familiar with Farmingdale. My company has an office there, I've sold properties there, my sister teaches kindergarten there...

But to the OP - It sounds like you are not really familiar with LI and just trying to get a handle on where you want to look for a home. If that's the case, please feel free to call or email me to discuss further. I work all over LI and would be happy to guide you.

For example, you mention public transportation... but what kind? If you are commuting to the city via LIRR, I would say that Farmingdale doesn't really jump out as being a top contender. It's fine, it has an LIRR station, but there are better train lines to be on, imo. Farmingdale covers a pretty large geographic area, so there are lots of neighborhoods (and they differ a bit) and also it's a big school district. It has a nice village area, with restaurants, stores, etc.

But I think it would be helpful to know more about your budget and criteria to be able to recommend areas that fit the bill.

I live in Farmingdale. DH and I just moved into our home in June. We like it right now, but bought it as a "starter home", as we financially couldn't afford what we wanted in the area we wanted but were sick and tired of paying rent. We will likely live in the house for a few years, put equity into it, and then put it on the market to hopefully be able to move to our choice neighborhoods of either Bellmore or Merrick. I've heard that the Farmingdale public schools are average to slightly above average, but we would ideally like to move to Bellmore/Merrick before we have kids entering the school system.

Anyone familiar with Farmingdale LI?

We bought our house in The village of Farmingdale 3 years and we love it, we're both from different places on LI. It is convenient for the train and driving wise it is near so many things. The schools are diverse and are rated fairly good. There is a lot of upward movement going on Main St with a bunch of new business that have just opened and are under construction to open soon. There are plans for new condos to be built in 2 spots with one location having additional building of just luxury lofts slated to start I believe next year so it may end up being more like queens than some other places on LI. It is IMO really different than Franklin square, you should check both towns out.

DH works in the city so it needs to be an "easy" commute and not too long. Plus he has some health issues and can not be on the train or a bus too long.
.

Many people will talk about the commute from false not great but I usually find those that say it don't actually do the commute themselves.

I commute to grand central area everyday. My morning train is 50 mins and a few min more in the evening. I have lived on 3 different lines and never had a commute more than a min or two shorter. There are express trains all the time. My morning one only makes 3 stops total and afternoon one makes 4.

thank you , I am saving your info and will be contacting you. We can't buy until we sell our coop , but we wanted to have a list of areas/towns we can look .

A friend's sister moved to Farmingdale recently and she was talking to me about it. She loves it but she did also say that you have to know which areas are "good" . Not really sure what other towns are out there, everyone we know lives really far out .

For a shorter commute, I would look at towns in western nassau, what about Lynbrook, or Rockville Centre?
