Thanks to all moms who posted about making your own food
I wanted to do it but all the posts on it gave me so much motivation.
It really easy and must say SOOOO much cheaper.
I had a steamer and hand blender than I was not using/forgot I had. So I really did not have to buy anything.
I made sweet potato and squash. Next is carrots. Probably will do it today.
THANKS for motivating me!

He had them with the jar. I just want him to eat fresh food. We can use the jars as back up when I run errands, etc...

I missed those threads. how do you store the food though? and unfreezing the cubes of veggies is it the same? I just feel weird freezing and knowing how long to freeze for and what can you freeze. I would love to do this though!!!

- steam/cook - puree - put in ice trays - cover with wrap - once hard, I take the cubes and transfer them in a gallon freezer bag. I take what need for his food/meal

I always used some of the water left over from the steaming - that way the nutrients in the water are added back into the food.

I would feel comfortable freezing veggies up to 6 months. If you are going to do thai I would consider getting the Foodsaver(prefessional vacuum sealer) to avoid freezer burn. We got one for $129 at Costco

I do the same thing, but with EBM. I usually do it when I'm about to serve it, not before I freeze it.

Re: Thanks to all moms who posted about making your own food
Silly question...but how do you defrost it? Do you microwave the cubes or just set it out?

Re: Thanks to all moms who posted about making your own food
Awesome! I just wanted to note to please be careful with carrots. Carrots contain nitrates and baby food companies regulate the amount in their baby food.
I've read several places that carrots are one food you should refrain from doing yourself except in small amounts.

How do you regular nitrate in jars and not in fresh food?
I bought organic veggies. Would it have less nitrate?
