For his 30th I booked us a trip to Harry Truman's birthplace--Independence, MO--complete with plane tickets, hotel and rental car. He's a Harry Truman nut if that's even possible. Feel free to steal my idea 
But you may want to book a place he's always wanted to go...my BF brought her DH to Canton, Ohio--home of the football hall of fame.

i just picked up the Movado watch he's had his eye on...its his 30th on Saturday!!!!
i also got us tix to see the Yanks on saturday and passes to the stadium club for dinner!

This is kinda my dilemma as well b/c we are trying to save and just got back from vaca and so we said we weren't going to go crazy w/ gifts--and now I have a week and no clue what to get. All the suggestions have been fun! Thanks again!
