The Daniel Franco Shuffle
So anyone who watched PR knows the Daniel Franco shuffle very well, do something, walk 20 feet away, stare, make a small adjustment, 10 feet away, small adjustment, alther, rinse repeat until 2 hours have gone by and you've done nothing.
I wanted to murder the set designer. We had brought in all the stuff from the van and he was breaking for lunch, so I asked him what his game plan was only because I ahd to coordinate all of the designers that day, he got annoyed and said he was eating lunch and needed time. I was just like "oh-kay" and walked away.
Finally he starts working. He asked someone else to rbing in a hammer so he could do grommets. You're set desginer and you don't have a hammer? And why couldn't you do that at home?
So he grommets the backdrop (which is at this point just sheets of muslin) and hangs is, then moves onto something else, which I could have finished in 15 minutes..but for 2 hours, he's working on this little set piece, and every 2 minutes walks over to the bakdrop, looks at it, does a smalla djustment,m and basically daniel franco shuffles for 2 minutes, and then goes back to his set piece....
Needless to say, we are WAY nehind schedule!
That and at 4pm, the ladt who runs the theater was like "Hey I'm going out to get a new light board now"... which is like if you work in an office someone saying 2 hours before you have a deadline, "we're just gonna go ahead and give you a new computer and take 2 hours to install it, ok?"
Is it an artist eccentricity thing?
If that set designer Daniel franco shuffles one more time I'm going to trip him as he's backing up to get another angle!
