The great pumpkin caper
When we were little, my brother and I had those hard plastic pumpkins to go trick-or-treating with. My dad had written our names on each of them. Mom has displayed them with pride each fall for the past 26 years.
A few years ago, our house burned to the ground and miraculously, the pumpkins were one of about 15 things that actually escaped unscathed.
Tonight, mom goes to look for them and they are missing. Dad calls me up to tell me that mom is in hysterics - literally. She was sobbing so hard that I could barely make out what she was saying when he handed the phone over to her. I found it to be a bit amusing - but I can understand why she was so upset about this.
I called them back a few minutes ago, and apparently, mom accused dad of throwing them out. Dad swears up and down that he didn't touch them - why would he, knowing the sentimental value behind them?
It's a true Halloween mystery, if ya ask me. It's not like they can get up and walk out of the house and it's not like they can be easily hidden - they are huge day-glo orange pumpkins!
I'm torn between at the situation and for the missing pumpkins that meant so much to my mom.
