The Help (spoilers)
Did you feel it ended rather abruptly? I mean, I turned the page and....nothing. I was left wondering what will happen to everyone. And I was definitely angry that Elizabeth and Hilly didn't really get what they deserved.

Re: The Help (spoilers)
I loved it. And I was hoping that Elizabeth and Hilly's "comeuppances" would be more dramatic, but when I thought about it, I concluded that they were both trapped and living lives that would not make them happy, whereas Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny were able to move on to new and better things, which they deserved.
My book club read this book- we meet tomorrow and I can't wait to hear what everyone else thought.
Maybe there will be some sort of sequel- I would love to read more about these characters.

Re: The Help (spoilers)
I agree, but I was still left wondering about the new lives they would lead. How would Aibileen support herself as she herself wonders at the end of the story? Could she really become a writer or it that an unrealistic dream for a southern African-American woman in the 1960's? I was also disappointed with the way they left the whole Stuart situation, but overall, as you said, it was an excellent novel.

Re: The Help (spoilers)
I felt cheated at the end of the book- and it was the only part of the book I didn't like.
None the less, I was crying like a baby.

Re: The Help (spoilers)
i loved this book and I did wonder how Aibleen would make it after losing her job....but I am somehow left thinking she would find a maid job somehow
I loved how the white ladies are still trapped
I also really liked the author's acknowledgments at the end. It was ineteresting to know about her experiences with a maid

Re: The Help (spoilers)
I agree. It was very interesting to see how the author's real life experiences influenced the novel.
I didn't really feel Hilly was trapped at all in the novel. She seemed to be comfortable with the life she had. Elizabeth though was another story.

Re: The Help (spoilers)
I loved the book although as PP said I did feel like I was left wondering what would happen to some of the characters, especially Minny and Aibileen. I was disappointed that Hilly didn't "get hers". I found throughout the book I had to remind myself that this was the 1960s, just a few decades ago

Yes! I mean, I know history. I know that segregation and racism was alive and kicking in the 60s, but just reading it I felt like I was reading a story based in a different century. So sad.

Re: The Help (spoilers)
Loved it. I really could not believe how recent this all took place...wow.
It was a hard book to read bc it made me so angry and sad at points.
I think it is perfectly setup for a sequel...there are a lot of loose ends I would like to see tied

Re: The Help (spoilers)
OK finished it. Either abruptly ended or set up for a sequel. I could have read just about Minny and Celia, I like that story line.
