I can totally relate because I fear losing my job, and we just went to contract on our first house!
Basically, I was tricked by someone who I thought was my friend back this spring. I walked into a big-*** mess, the state closed down the program in November.
I've been told verbally that I have another job in the company and they want to train me for other stuff........however, as 1/1 looms near, they haven't given me an offer letter or anything (and they did my boss and she has already started 2 weeks ago!).
Basically I've been sitting around and getting paid for it. That sounds great, but I am bored to tears.
I actually have been sending out resumes like a mad-woman and have decided to take this week off to go on interviews.
I am just too afraid of walking in a week before we are supposed to go to closing and they're like "sorry you don't have a job", then we lose our mortgage and downpayment!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know it seems like the worst thing that can happen right now, but with time you may see it as a blessing.
I've been laid off 3 times - the second time I was 4 months pg and about to close on our house in 10 days. The third time I was 6 months pg. So I know exactly where you are coming from... It $ucked at the moment, but we made it through each time. In hindsight it was the best thing to happen to us.
Sulk, cry, drink, curse if you need to for a little bit, but don't wallow in it. The next opportunity will be bigger and better, you just have to believe it and claim it. Take some time to figure out what you want out of your next job. 2008 will bring much success.
