Have we just become the laziest with this? This is a sad state.
If you have to have a machine park for you then you need to get off the road.
I am in the field of insurance and beleive me there are plenty of other reasons why some people should NOT be on the road! Parallel parking isnt just ONE!
I'll bet!!
or should I say

I don't fully understand the feature... in the commercial I see the steering wheel turning back to the opposite way it was turned pre-park mode.
Don't all cars do this? Isn't that what you call power steering? Maybe I am missing something....
It parks itself. No need to steer it, put your foot on the break or gas.

Re: The New Lexus that parks your car for you...
Iused to work in research and development for a car company and the ultimate goal is to allow cars to drive for themselves
the idea is use many differnet sensors- warn people when cars are in your blind spot when changing lanes, keep a certain distfance from cars
mercedes has a car that has automated cruise control that allows the car to slow down as it apporaches a car
the myth has been that mercedes has a car that can change lanes and adjust speed relative to other cars
planes fly themselves and pilots just review and that will be the future with cars -the car does most of the work and the driver just watches - will help stop accidents when people fall asleep at the wheel or it will engcourage people to fall asleep driving - time will only tell us

I can tell you this... if my car is driving for me, I WILL be sleeping! I have the hardest time staying awake now and I am in control!

Re: The New Lexus that parks your car for you...
If you think the only goal is to have cars park themselves and have cruise control it's not. They plan on having cars prevent accidents one day. They have been researching this for years.
I think it's a great feature. And yes maybe it shows a little laziness on our part, but honestly when technology is developed in one area, it usually helps us out in another.

So what do you do? Pull up, and hit a button and the car does everything by using sensors? I think this is an awesome feature!
I parallel park everyday and have for many years. I have gotten pretty good, but I can even use help figuring out where the curb is sometimes. I don't know if I would pay extra for it, but after a while it could become a more standard feature like cruise control. From what I see in my neighborhood, this can only improve people's parking.

Most of the time it's someone hitting another car in the rear. Stop tailgating people!

Re: The New Lexus that parks your car for you...
I have had to parallel park maybe TWICE since I took my road test 15 years ago......It's safe to say I am a bit rusty!
Even if I had the new feature, I don't really have the need to use it.

Does anyone think that's insane? In a bad way....
If you can't parallel park by yourself, perhaps you shouldn't be on the road?
I think it's weird yet somewhat of a good idea. I don't necessarily think that if someone can't parallel park they shouldn't be on the road. I hardly, if ever, parallel parked from the time I did it for my driving test, until I moved to the Bronx 11 years later. I had to do it all the time then..talk about playing "bumper cars" but I got really good at it! Now with my Ford Explorer, it's harder again but we live upstate so I don't have to parallel park all the time anymore.

Re: The New Lexus that parks your car for you...
i was really surprised when i saw this commercial...it kinda made me scared for the future..having cars that could eventually drive for us! I def agree that if you can't parallel park yourself , you should not have your car do it for you! that is just pure insanity!
