Reading it right now. I got it yesterday. So far (I am about half way done) I am not loving it. It's probably cause I want the original characters. It is not holding my interest very well.

That's how I felt. I wasn't really invested in the main characters. It did get more interesting toward the end when we got to see the Cullens at the battle, but that was such a short part of the story.
There were a few things that were surprising, like the earlier conversation with Jane. I guess it was in SM's head when she was writing Eclipse but didn't translate since it was from Bella's perspective. And it makes sense that Edward wouldn't have shared that with Bella after he read it in Bree's mind (and possibly Jane's) since he's so protective of her and knew she was already pretty freaked out about the Volturi.

I thought it was very dull. I skimmed through a lot of it because I didn't care about the characters. It's nice that she has it on her website for free so kids won't have to waste their money on it.

Re: The short second life of Bree Tanner
I finally got a chance to read it, and I didn't like it. I found it to be very slow moving and it just didn't hold my interest, I was very disappointed, and I'm a huge fan of the series.
