My coworker and I came across it at work doing research for a contest we are having. So weird!

It's a virtual world where people just hang out and do whatever with other people. Think of it like a myspace/facebook that you interact with and explore. It's pretty popular, so much so I think some companies conduct meetings through that game rather than spend on teleconferencing technology. I also believe a band had a live concert through the game. I never tried it out myself, but I've known about it for quite some time.

they did an episode on 2nd life type of game on law and order.. it was called sometihng like 2nd life... it wasn't too long ago maybe 2 weeks?

I've had an account on there for a while. It seems like it might take off, so I created a user just to have one, in case there is a fee or something to create one later on.
People make real money in there. You can build objects, then sell them. You use fake money inside the game, but you can convert it to real money. Vice-versa, too. You can put money into your account, then buy things in the simulator.

In "The Office", Dwight created a 2nd Life type game *inside* 2nd Life. His title was also "Assistant TO the Regional Manager"..... the only difference was that he could fly....

I know a person that works for them. He does product placement of things in their world. It's run out of a house that is their office.

Is he making most of his money from virtual Governors?
There's also real estate transactions in there. You don't NEED a house or property, but you can buy/sell houses and "land" in there.

It's a virtual world. My grad school built a campus on there and we use it as a meeting place to hold classes and lectures. It's a pretty fun place to interact with other people while remaining anonymous

Exactly. Being a Sims fan, I registered in Second Life to see what it's about. I was propositioned for cyber sex three times in the span of 15 minutes.
When I tried to explain to some kid why I wouldn't, and that I was married, he said to who? I said, I don't think you know him. He said, what's his username? I was like what?! He explained that you can get "married" to other Second Life people.
I spent some time in the 80's dance club but haven't been back since. It's a little too weird for me.

Picture a combination of Sims and LIFamilies.... Imagine everyone here had a character that represented themselves, instead of just an avatar. We would walk around a virtual world, buy stuff, build stuff, sell stuff, interact with other characters, go to virtual concerts.
It's basically IRL, but on-line.....
