After we got engaged someone said to me, "He must really love you."
What kind of comment is that?
Does that mean that love=money????
How can you not respond with "No, he's just using me because I'm phenomenal in bed." ?

I do think it's rude if a stranger on the street asks you but if a friend or family member asked me it would not bother me I don't think that they are rude to post that cause if people don't want to answer they don't have to
I agree with this.

Re: The source shall remain nameless, but I totally think it's rude:
i think it depends on who its coming from.....like family/close friends, I dont care if they ask and I tell.
catty biatches at work are another story!
when I first got engaged, people saw my ring and would ask, "wow, what does your FH do?" and I reply "he's a teacher" - then I get "how did he afford that!"
I wanted to respond, yea, you know that bank that got robbed yesterday.....
people are nosy, its a part of life!

Re: The source shall remain nameless, but I totally think it's rude:
My favorite ring comment was in the nail salon.
I'm getting my pedicure and there's a 13ish girl next to me and she says "Oh my god! I love your ring, it's HUGE!! That's exactly what I want when I get married!!"
So I say thank you and she tells her mom to look at it.
The mom turns, looks at my ring and says "The diamond isn't that big Sarah, it's the setting. Men know now how to make the diamonds look bigger so it makes them look more important."
W T F!?!
I wanted to splash her with my foot water!!

Re: The source shall remain nameless, but I totally think it's rude:
I do think it's rude and I would never ask anyone. But I had a few friends ask me and I didn't get upset because I knew they had no clue their question was inappropriate and were just genuinely curious what size it was since they had no idea what caret size looks like what. Does that make any sense?
I did have the pleasure of being there when one friend asked another how big her ring was and friend two responded by putting friend one in her place. Whoa, that wasn't pretty.

Re: The source shall remain nameless, but I totally think it's rude:
honestly-- I think it depends who is doing the asking. If it's a good friend and we all have comparable rings-- I don't really care. If it's a stranger-- I think it's pretty rude.

i just saw a post on the liweddings board
so ridiculous. these girls are actually posting the size cut clarity u name it - it is pretty funny
agreed! and i'm sorry but when they ask if you would ever upgrade, that bothers me too...this is the ring my DH got down on one knee with...its worth more to me than anything else, no matter how big or small it is.

Well I did post if anyone would change their setting....not upgrade....but change settings. I hope I didn't offend you then.....certainly no intention to.

Re: The source shall remain nameless, but I totally think it's rude:
i didn't see that post actually , so its fine....i was just giving my HO...i would never want my DH to feel like the ring he gave me "wasn't good enough." the only way i would ever change my ring was like Meaghan said, if i god forbid lose it...where just like her FH, my DH would kill me.

I agree with that. On a board like LIW I see nothing wrong with the question, even if it is just a p*ssing contest. In person it's just tacky and rude.

My cousin married very rich and recently got a new wedding set. Her e -ring is about 4 carats. She called mine..."Oh, cute!" Wham! Did you feel that slap?!

Re: The source shall remain nameless, but I totally think it's rude:
like Preshy- I know I answered on one of those before
I didn't really think anything of it
people ask me all time- I had a meeting once - and the guy stopped the meeting to ask me how much it cost!
I laughted it off- but I thought that was ruder then how many carats it is-

I hear ya...It's up there with "how much was your home?" and "when will are you having kids?"
How much is your mortgage?
Someone asked me that once....I guess I'm a total prude. I just think it's private info, baby!
Funny you should mention that...I went for an eye exam and to get new glasses on Sat. and there were two girls in their 20's but older than me, who worked there. When they were taking my info down and saw where I lived, this is what one girl said "How can you afford to live in Howard Beach?" For some ODD reason she assumed that because I was newly married, I did not work! ***??? Then when I told her I worked she asked me to get her a job!!! Then she asked how much my mortgage was!!! Is this chick out of her bird or what????
