The Third biting incident!!! moms who work for a daycare help please
My son got bit for the third time yesterday..this time on his face and left a huge bite mark. I know from the other teachers that it was the same girl who bit DS the other two times.
I got a call from another mother saying her son was bit twice yesterday too and the director kept saying "she" the biter....So Yes im assuming it was the same child.
My question is: I know they are not allowed to tell me WHO it was but shouldnt' they have to tell me if it was the same child? I feel like I need to know if there is an issue with another child, that it is my right as a parent to know if a certain child is hurting my child. I'd like her to be moved to another room. what are your thoughts....
Too clarify: I'd like to just know if they need/should tell me if it was the same child! Im not mad at the child or the parent..I know them and like them very much.. I feel badly that they have this issue..however..my job as a mother it to protect my child..if there is a child hurting my child I feel I have the right to know.thanks!! The question I need answered is: Should I have the right to know if it was the SAME child hurting my child?

Re: The Third biting incident!!! moms who work for a daycare help please
I know that some kids are biters, and it stinks for the kid and the parent and all involved - but honestly I think the daycare is a fault here. If she's bit John THREE times and another kid at least twice she should already have been shadowed. Without knowing all the nitty gritty details it seems like they dropped the ball here.
How big is the daycare - can you ask if John can be moved to a new room?

Whenever we had an incident at work where one child bit/hurt another we never put names on the accident sheets. BUT a copy of the report was sent home to each parent and you could always see who had one in their child's cubby.
Sorry your DS is on the receiving end of that -- I know it's hard!

ITA, I think the daycare should be more alert if he's already been bitten

Re: The Third biting incident!!! moms who work for a daycare help please
It's tutor time...I agree they are dropping the ball on this one!! I dont think John should be disturbed and transitioned to another room....I think the biter should KWIM?
But the problem is.. I don't think they will actually TELL me that it's the same child...They told the other mother that they couldnt' tell her if it was the same child.
remember Im not supposed to know who it was. My argument and question is...i have a right to know if ONE particular child is hurting my child... Don't you agree?

Re: The Third biting incident!!! moms who work for a daycare help please
I have no advise, but poor John.
I did work at a daycare back in college, but with the pre-K kids. Much easier. No diapers
The other day when DH dropped Mason off a girl pushed him. DH said it was an accident and Mason is pretty clumsy and tends to bump into pple then fall. It was nothing, but when DH told me I asked him if he pushed the girl right back He laughed at me. Mason is so passive and sweet. When we have playdates and another kid is more aggresive Mason tends to ignore and if the kid takes his toy he just finds something else. I love that about him, but I want to beat up every bully around him. DH tells me I'm nots and I'm going to be THAT mother.

I do agree...if its the same kid each time, I'd want to know if maybe he needs to be in another room or something....same kid 3x is different from 3 different kids

i am always told who the child is who bites. its on the accident report. if i found out its the same child i would be peeved with the teachers for not watching her more closely.

Re: The Third biting incident!!! moms who work for a daycare help please
I used to work in daycare and if it is the same child that bit 3x, that child needs a shadow...Like NOW. That child should have been shadowed after the 2nd incident.
We were never allowed to tell who the biter was. I *think* they do this for fear of the "bitees" parents waiting around and saying something to the biters parents.
Should you have a right to know? Yes. Will they ever tell you? No, probably not. It's a pretty big policy (I believe) in many day cares. (I worked in a few different companies).
I would talk to the director and request..heck, demand a shadow in that class!

Re: The Third biting incident!!! moms who work for a daycare help please
My mom owns her own daycare center and if the same child is biting she does disclose the name to the parent of the child who was biten. Your child has a huge mark on his face, I think you should know!!
I agree with the shadow thing, my mom would have an assistant follow that little girl around ALL DAY! Your child should not be bitten 3 times, that is unacceptable.

Re: The Third biting incident!!! moms who work for a daycare help please
I think I'd speak to the Director and say something like,
"I realize that you may not be allowed to tell me who the biter is and/ or whether or not it was the same child who bit John. However, getting bit 3X = a lot and obviously I'm concerned. What is being done? Is the child being shadowed? Moved to another room? If not, at what point will that be done?"

Even if they won't tell you, doesn't mean you can't ask. You can just say "listen, I understand you can't tell me who this child is BUT if it is the same one, I'd like to request for him/her to have a shadow my child has now been hurt this time and I'm not ok with the situation." Explain that you understand it is not the childs fault, he/she doesn't know any better & the poor baby is probably teething and in pain.
