The thumbsucking dilemma
As you may have noticed, princesses do not suck their thumbs. They also don't stomp their feet or punch their brothers (at least the princesses we've told her about - true princesses do that all of the time but she doesn't have to know that).
Maddie, in her true desire to be a princess, is trying her hardest not to suck her thumb. She can't wear nail polish if she's sucking her thumb. Princesses wear nailpolish. Pink nailpolish.
While taking her out of the car this morning I notice her hand was up by her mouth. She said "Mom. I stopped sucking my thumb! I'm using my knuckles now!"
Well it's a start.

I forgot all about it this morning until I saw your photos. Start invoking princess behavior early!

Re: The thumbsucking dilemma
If I recall correctly, one cannot wear a tiara AND suck their thumb at the same time.
Just like the tuxedo rule, no gum chewing while wearing a tux.
Poor Maddie, now that Disney's named a princess after her ("All of my wildest dreams have come true ") the poor girl is under A LOT of pressure

Re: The thumbsucking dilemma
Going through the exact same thing with my 4 year old who also believes she's a princess ( i don't know where she gets it because I'm a little bit ambilivent about the whole princess thing anyway).
I've never really pushed the issue to hard because she only sucks her thumb when she's very tired and on the verge of sleep. Still, we had the pleasure of an infection a few months ago, and my pedicatrician explained to me that it happens to thumb suckers all the time. Since than I've been on the princesses don't suck their thumbs campaign. When she asks me how I know that I explain that the Queen mum must keep abreast on these issues. Unfortunately, she's still not buying it. Good luck, it seems we could both use it.

How funny...love the princess idea! I will have to pass that on to my friend whose daughter is a BIG thumb sucker.
