They closed Penn Station...
Just got off the phone with my Mom. She's stuck at work now, I feel so bad. I wish I could drive and go get her....Too many people were trying to get home early so they shut it down.

DH's boss just called him. He's stranded on the tracks in Queens (for over 2 1/2 hours) and they are waiting for a diesel to come and pull them because the third rail is iced over

I just heard it's because there is a downed wire on the tracks outside of Penn.
Pretty much all of the south shore lines are at a halt.

Ronkonkoma Branch Customers:
Service on the Ronkonkoma Branch has been restored with residual delays of up to 2 hours. It was suspended earlier in both directions due to a jackknifed tractor trailer which was blocking the LIRR's crossing at Wellwood Avenue just west of Pinelawn Station.
Montauk/Babylon Branch Customers:
Limited service has been restored on one of the two tracks on the Babylon Branch with residual delays of 60 to 90 minutes. Service was temporarily suspended earlier in both directions due to LIPA wires down on the tracks between Wantagh and Seaford. The 2:02 PM train from Speonk due to arrive in Jamaica at 3:36 PM is operating approximately 90 minutes late.
Huntington Branch
The 1:42 PM train from Penn Station arriving Huntington at 2:47 PM was canceled at Floral Park. The train was delayed earlier between Queens Village and Hollis due to equipment trouble.
Canceled/Combined Trains:
The 3:21 PM train from Penn Station arriving Babylon at 4:23 PM is canceled. Customers will be handled on the 3:34 PM train from Penn Station.
The 4:16 PM train from Flatbush Avenue arriving Babylon at 5:53 PM has been canceled. Customers will be handled on the 4:39 PM train from Flatbush Avenue.
The 4:30 PM train from Hunterspoint Avenue arriving Patchogue at 5:55 PM has been canceled. Customers will be handled by the 4:44 PM train from Hunterspoint Avenue.
Penn Station Customers:
Due to overcrowding conditions at Penn Station -- customer access to Penn Station is very limited.
Customers are advised to use caution when navigating stairways and platforms due to possible slippery conditions at stations.

I think about 3 years ago there was a fire on valentines day in the tunnel at Penn station...I remember my FH and I at the time stuck at Penn for hours, missed our reservations and had tv dinners around 10PM!

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)--Due to weather conditions, several eastbound LIRR trains will be canceled and combined with trains leaving five to 10 minutes later.
Long Island Rail Road service on the Ronkonkoma branch is temporarily suspended in both directions -- due to a jack-knifed tractor trailer blocking the crossing at Wellwood Avenue, just west of Pinelawn Station. Customers are being asked to consider using the Port Jefferson Branch.
Service is also temporarily suspended on the Babylon branch in both directions, due to wires down on the tracks between Wantaugh and Seaford.

When I worked in Manhattan last year they closed down sections to control the crowd, but Penn itself was up & running.

I am stuck here in NYC too. I figure its better to wait it out a bit then stand outside in the snow. The last time they limited access to Penn I entered through KMart. I am just so tired tonight I dont want to stand around Penn in a croud of angry people for hours.
This is why I need to get a job on LI!

I have an update from LBG30 on Penn. She said it's not that bad and the delays are not as bad as they said on the website!
Her 5:55 should be there soon.
