They never appreciate you until your gone
So I worked for my last firm for 1 1/2 years. I rarely got a word of praise. Even in my first few months when I got a case dismissed against my client, I was not congratulated. I was miserable from day 1.
After the worst review I ever received in my career, I decided to get my but in gear and start looking for a new job. After 6 months, I left to another firm doing the same thing. The work is the same, but the environment is SO much different.
So since I left two months ago, two partners (including one that made my life miserable), emailed me to tell me that the papers I wrote were successful and we ended up winning two appeals. 
Now why couldn't they have told me that when I was still there? Don't get me wrong. I'm really glad they went out of their way to let me know. But if they weren't such tools, I could be putting my skills to work for THEM, instead of moving on to greener pastures. Oh well. Their loss.

What a nice compliment- definately keep in touch with them- you never know when you might need a good reference.

So glad you're in a better place now. It's terrible how there are so many companies like that. Praise=happy employees=they'll do more work

uhhhhh. I hate that. I had that with a job. it was my dream job. I lived everything about it but I was treated so poorly by the owner. to the point where I was in tears many days. When I gave my notice I was leaving (after I had accepted another job) he explained to me how shocked he was and disappointed I was one of his best employees etc etc. He said ALL the right things that I needed to hear all year long, at the wrong time.
Maybe it worked out for the best since I am someplace better now (that other job didn't work out, left after 2 months )but its so fustrating when it happens! I had no idea I even mattered to the company until I left
