Thin uterus lining (x-post from ttc)

I began a post on ttc a while ago about my non-existant menstrual cycle. Basically, I have not had a period since about March or so..I can't remember exactly. Anyway, my doctor figured out that I have not been ovulating because the lining of my uterus is on the thin side but she said there were plenty of eggs & a normal estrogen level. She is going to provide me some type of pill to take to jump start my period when I am ready to conceive.

Does anyone have this problem? How will a fetus grow to 9 months if the lining is thin? I don't know anything about this right now.. I have to read up this weekend.

I responded to your post on TTC.

Thin uterine lining is not the cause for you not ovulating. If you haven't had your period since March, I would go for further testing. PCOS can be one indication as to why you are not ovulating. Provera is the pill your Dr. is talking about to jump start your period. Once you do that, I would strongly suggest having bloodwork done on day 3 of your cycle to check your hormone levels as well as having a sonogram to see what your ovaries look like (cycsts, etc...) actually you can ask for a sono now, but again, I strongly suggest having day 3 blood work done.

I agree, and I wouldn't wait until you are ready to TTC to take provera, you have already gone too long without a period.
You may want to go straight to an RE if your insurance allows it.

Re: Thin uterus lining (x-post from ttc)

thanks for your comments.. yes, provera is the drug my Dr mentioned.
I have taken a blood test twice & my hormone levels were normal. Then she gave me this exam where she could see in my uterus.. she showed me eggs & my lining. I would hope that she would have noticed cysts on the monitor if I had them.
You are both right though, I should start the provera sooner rather than later. I NEVER imagined this could be so difficult.

PCOS is actually a misnomer. It doesn't mean you have cysts in your ovaries, which is a very common misconception because of the name. What happens with PCOS is you have lots and lots of follicles in your ovaries. Follicles contain eggs, this is what the doctor showed you on the sonogram you got. In PCOS these follicles don't mature and release an egg every month like they should. Seeing "a string of pearls" on the ovary is one indication of PCOS, although it is not an absolute one, and there are other symptoms as well.
To go as long as you have without a period is not normal, even if you didn't want to TTC. You should speak to your doctor about your concerns and find out the reason you are not ovulating.

Good luck to you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I know the feeling you mentioned - that you never thought it would be so difficult.Chat Icon

Re: Thin uterus lining (x-post from ttc)

When did you have bloodwork done? It's hard to determine how accruate the levels are if it's done in the midst of a cycle, especially one as long as yours. The best time to have bloodwork done is in the beginning of your cycle (day 3), as everything *should* be baseline at that point

I also agree with Lauren about the cysts on your ovaries in correlation with PCOS. I also have PCOS and never had any cysts. I just don't ovulate on my own.

I had my last bloodwork taken about 2 months ago. I better demand to check for pcos.
