Think Before You Pink
While reading up about the increasing grocery costs on msn.com, I came across a blog article about different marketing ploys brands use to get you to buy their products. One of these is The "pink" campaign:
Soup for the cure. Any company that works alongside an honorable charity has my full support. However, I would like to clarify that I have been disappointed by the recent rash of breast cancer promotions by my favorite brands. Pink soup cans, pink appliances and pink M&Ms have me a little overwhelmed and confused.
Are we expected to pay more for these premium brands simply because of a promise that a tiny percentage of the purchase price will go to breast cancer research? Personally, I would rather use a coupon or buy the store-brand mushroom soup, and write out a nice $15 check to the charity of my choice. I get more groceries for my money, and it's tax-deductible. By exploiting a relationship with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, many companies have managed to sell plenty of merchandise at quite a premium. For more information on how companies are profiting from these campaigns, visit Think Before You Pink's Web site.
I thought this bought up a really great point, as I myself have been tempted to purchase products "for a cure."
The website lists questions to ask yourself before you spend the extra money on these products.

Re: Think Before You Pink
I laughed when I first saw 100 calorie packs, still do... how hard is it to take a few cookies out of a package and put them in a ziploc bag

I agree. And if you have kids, you really get to see how many other marketing ploys they have bc they know that kids go shopping with the mother or father and we all know kids love to pick out yummy stuff. Check out what is at eye level for kids in the stores....and how kids are all over the snazzy little packs of snacks...
Amen to the comment about the amount of packaging in some of these things too. Good Lord!

I agree - but I think there are people out there who really do not know how to portion control....

Re: Think Before You Pink
I have heard about this before and I don't buy Pink....I give to the charity directly. Besides, most companies have a cap that they give so it's not like buying more will get more money to the charity of choice.
