Think I'm ready for a puppy
After we had to put down Hershey back in 2005 (wow - I can't believe it's been that long!), I was in no way emotionally ready for a new dog.
And now after the months of caring for Max when he was sick, I thought I'd really want a break from having more than one ... give Bailey a chance to be THE dog in his house once again.
Well, I don't think he's enjoying being alone. I really think he misses Max even though for so many months he was sick and it's not as if they ever "played" or really "hung out" ... I guess he just liked having company.
Right before (or after) Max went down, Bailey had some bad xrays that led to an ultrasound then a biopsy. All of which was inconclusive () so we honestly don't know what sort of timeline we are on with him.
Ah, just talking out loud ... DH put PUPPY on his Christmas list but he's nuts and would have gotten a puppy back when we had three dogs!

Re: Think I'm ready for a puppy
Dh has had Bailey since he was a puppy. I rescued Hershey, who was deaf, from a co-worker when she was just under a year because they "couldn't control her" so left her tied out on their porch most of the day.
DH works from home three days a week.

After all she just said about her dogs, is this really necessary?

My question was not intended to be rude. I asked because if she had never raised one before I would make her aware of how difficult it can be raising a puppy as opposed to an adult dog. Now that I know that her DH has raised one I don't need to tell her that.
Go for it!

Would you prefer a 17 year old orange and white cat?

Re: Think I'm ready for a puppy
I showed DH some of the gals I found on petfinder and he's like "fine, let's go this weekend"
So we will see ... we actually take Bailey to the vet on Saturday, want to know if we have any more info on his condition and then proceed.

No! DH was installing a new door and hammered his finger!!!!! I also had to remind him he had a business trip before the end of the month which would mean the puppy would be alone all day during that time, so we probably will wait until the beginning of December.

Re: Think I'm ready for a puppy
We had a cat before Daisy named Sadie. She died shortly after we got her and it's a long sad story.....anywho dh was ready for another cat the next weekend. Sadie died in Aug of 06 and it wasn't until Aug 07 that I was really ready for another cat. Here's my point......I really do have one......If you think you're ready then you more then likely are. I went to the shelter 3-4 times over the year and always left empty handed beut went wanting to take 1 home. As soon as I saw Daisy I just KNEW she was my furbaby. Take your time and look around. Relax and let him/her find you. They always give you a sign...........
