Think Warm! What SPF do you use for laying out in the sun?
if it's different from one you use daily- which do you use if you'll be in the sun all day?

I've used 30 for the last year. 15 just isn't cutting it for me.

I never lay in the sun all day, but usually like 8-15 on my arms and legs, 30 on my face and shoulders

Re: Think Warm! What SPF do you use for laying out in the sun?
I don't lay out because I get tan if a beam of sunlight hits me as I pass a window.
So, as you might guess, I use the highest SPF I can find - usually 45+ or better even though I've heard that anything above 30 is BS.

I am so White, so I always use 50, skin cancer just isnt worth the whole tan look. My DH who is naturally dark puts 50 also.

Re: Think Warm! What SPF do you use for laying out in the sun?
From Wikipedia:
The SPF (sun protection factor) of a sunscreen is a laboratory measure of the effectiveness of sunscreen; the higher the SPF, the more protection a sunscreen offers against UV-B (the ultraviolet radiation that causes sunburn) and UV-A (more associated with longer-term skin damage). The SPF indicates the time a person can be exposed to sunlight before getting sunburn with a sunscreen applied relative to the time he or she can be exposed without sunscreen. For example, someone who would burn after 12 minutes in the sun would expect to burn after 2 hours (120 min) if protected by a sunscreen with SPF 10. In practice, the protection from a particular sunscreen depends on factors such as:
The skin type of the user. The amount applied and frequency of re-application. Activities in which one engages (for example, swimming leads to a loss of sunscreen from the skin). Amount of sunscreen the skin has absorbed.
The SPF is an imperfect measure of skin damage because invisible damage and skin aging is also caused by the very common ultraviolet type A, which does not cause reddening or pain. Conventional sunscreen does not block UVA as effectively as UVB, and an SPF rating of 30+ may translate to significantly lower levels of UVA protection.

Re: Think Warm! What SPF do you use for laying out in the sun?
I use a higher spf now. I used to use 8 or 15 but now I use 30. DH mentioned that I don't get as tan as I used to..it's because I take better care of my skin now.

Re: Think Warm! What SPF do you use for laying out in the sun?
If I walk around the block on a sunny day, I burn and break out almost immediately. Hence, SPF 60. I used to actually buy special sunblock from Canada with extra blockers in it.

Re: Think Warm! What SPF do you use for laying out in the sun?
55 or 75
if you could see how oddly pale i am you would understand... Think Nicole Kidman meets a glass of milk
But yeah- history of skin cancer, I burn in about 10 minutes of ANY sunlight (even non-direct) and in fifteen-twenty minutes I have blisters.
People actually comment, reguarly, about me on the beach behind my back (I can hear of course).
One time two British kids (they were like 7) were looking at me like that! lol What can you do?
hahaha
