Thinking about the Holiday Gift drive we do here- Thinking about Back to School

Last year I got involved in an organization called "Operation Backpack". Basically, it gets quality backpacks filled with good supplies to kids in homeless shelters.

The key is a good quality backpack. Not something from the dollar store. These kids have enough problems without THEN getting made fun of because they don't even have a backpack, or a pen.

Although I do not have the time to organize it, I am suggesting that maybe we do a back to school drive like we do for the holiday drive.

People in need can PM one person. Then that person can post they need cloths, sneakers and back to school supplies for kids.

Its just a thought. But seeing rulers for 50 cents at Pathmark makes me think we can help some people out.

Kids are merciless. Cruel. Nasty. Mean. They will take ANY excuse to be cruel to another kid. Then take into account those who don't have money to get a new pair of sneakers for back to school. Who have dollar store pens. If there is a way to give kids a tiny, itsy bitsy leg up well then its something that's great.

Any thoughts on this?

I think it's a great idea. I saw they talking about this organization on one of the morning news shows. I don't know how you would go about it though, through schools or through churches. I know personally the PTA supplied a bunch of backpacks and supplies to our social worker to give out to kids they may need it. We knew the number of children from the social worker and went from there.
