Thinking Positively.. If not healthcare then what?
I am trying to think positively... in a hypothetical world.. if this had to happen what would you have had this money go to.
I say this because we discussed this at work (every single one of us is against this reform as its badly written, not thought out and against a lot of our state regulations).
So I suggested Id rather have improvements to education. I think that is a huge part. If our children were educated better, they'd get better jobs and contribute to the country. I think more educated people means more money in America and more jobs too. We rob our children of motivation and qualified teachers daily. I wish the teachers got paid more but also got screened for their jobs better. I want driven teachers teach my child not those afraid of PC. I want the schools to be a safe and challenging place for my daughter to grow and learn. I think we parents need more tools to educate them at home and resources to show our kids more outlets for education and exploration. I want my child to have access to aquariums, libraries, museums at free of cost all through her grade school years. I want programs for her to apprentice out into field of specialty when she's in High School. I want the impossible But hey.. i said thinking POSITIVELY! haha.
So in the vein of :If I won 30Million dollars.. I ask you...
If not healthcare what would you have spent $940B dollars of debt on?

I don't think there is anything more important then heathcare
If you don't have your heath...nothing else matters

i think in some ways health care and education go hand in hand - an educated population is able to make healthier choices...
so for me, after health care comes education

me too, what good will a great education do for you if you are ill and cant afford to get better and put that education to good use or if you rack up thousands in medical bills? Then what does that education do.....helps you get a good job, to help pay off all of those bills.

I do too. I think we have to. If we fix the educational system, people will be healthier (of course, health curriculums and phys ed need to be increased) and better able to take on the challenges that exist. Maybe if there was a better educated work force, companies would stay here. And of course, companies may need incentives to stay here. And if people are healthier, that will save on insurance costs.
Everything's related- when people are healthier, they miss less work and are more productive, which benefits the employer. Health in general is a huge problem- we're so fat and lazy as a country.

Re: Thinking Positively.. If not healthcare then what?
I do think it goes hand in hand.
People need to be educated on how to take care of themselves. I have family members who are obese and can't understand why they have knee/back pain, why they have sleep apnea, why they are sick all the time. One of out of the 5 members has private insurance. The others have Medicaid or nothing. Then you look at their diet and attempts to lose weight, which involves swapping regular for diet soda and that's about it. If my tax dollars are going towards healthcare for people who can do something about their health, then I object. Don't throw money at the problem, throw money at resolving the problem from the ground up.

Re: Thinking Positively.. If not healthcare then what?
me personally if it wasn't going to healthcare i wish it would be not spent at all, just balance the US books since we are in debt. I wouldn't opt to put more funding to schools necessarily because the reason teachers are being let go, cuts are being made is because we are in debt. Healthcare reform was necessary since it has been overlooked for far too long.
