Third time that CIO worked
I have to say - I didn't even really plan to do it - it started at yesterday mornings nap - he was getting too heavy for me to rock without a second cup of coffee in me.
I put him down - he was crying. I got on the phone with a friend at 10:22am. At 10:30 I went to go and get him - and all of a sudden - he stopped crying.
This morning - same thing - put him down at 9:55am - cried until 10:05.
This afternoon nap was a little bit longer - put him down at 4:22 - cried until 4:35. I just walked into his room to get him - and saw that he was just about to pass out. I dropped to below the crib so he couldn't see me just in case.
I cannot believe that this actually works.
So far - we have no problems with him going down at night - but I have to say - I don't mind letting him cry for this short period of time. I don't know how I would feel if it went on for more then 20minutes or so because I'm a wimp - but so far - I have to say - CIO isn't so bad!
My question is this - will there be a time where he eventually stops crying when he is put down - or will this just happen everyday?
Sorry to ramble but I am so excited that I may not have to rock this kid 3 times a day - 45minutes each time.

Great that its working!!
I know that DD has to be put down the same way at daycare, mom tells me this.
Its obvious she is crabby and due for a nap so crying for 5-10min is not a bad thing.
I know my niece just goes down for naps. she just turned a yr old. Not sure that works for all.

Re: Third time that CIO worked
I did the ferber method with my son...it took three nights (no more than 15 min each night). Now there are nights that he goes in and goes right to sleep, nights where he goes in and just complains, and nights where he does cry for 1-2 minutes, but its great!
Good luck!

Wow - I hope that this is the start of something. He was really a crummy sleeper for so long - and my back is breaking from literally rocking a 22lb baby - who is total dead weight.
This would make life sooooo much easier!

Re: Third time that CIO worked
We did CIO in the beginning at 6 months and now she just goes down for naps at one year. She may cry for a minute or two as she settles in to sleep but that's it.

Re: Third time that CIO worked
We just put DS on a schedule this week as well. He still cries and fusses a bit when he goes down for naps but so far, he only "talks" when it's bedtime. We put him in his crib and within 15 mins, he's usually asleep. I never thought I'd ever let him fuss but I guess they have to learn to put themselves to sleep eventually. I'm so happy to hear it's working for you as well.
