This got me mad.....
My family was at my brother in laws party yesterday. There were a ton of people but Em who is ASD handled herself pretty well. I have a niece who is also 5 and typical. She is very well aware that DD has issues. She was in her room with a bunch of girls and wouldn't let her in. Then in front of the other girls she told them that my DD always messes up her room, which is untrue. I know kids will be kids....but I did tell my husband that his brother needs to talk to her about Emma's issues. It's hard enough to be worried about your child getting singled out by strangers but when its a relative that makes it worse. I also thinks she needs to know that that behavior is not acceptable for any child. I'm a teacher and I see the way typical kids are singled out....some parents do nothing about it and the kids grow up thinking its ok for kids to be treated that way. I went it and told my niece that she wasn't being nice but it really got me annoyed. Again, I know kids will be kids.....but I'll be damned if I sit back and watch my child be singled!

I don't think your BIL needs to talk to his daughter about Em's issues. I think he needs to talk to her about HER issues. I've been in your shoes and it breaks your heart into a million pieces. Kids need to be taught that everyone is different. Can you limit your exposure to this kid?

I go through the same with my DD. My sisters children are wonderful but others not so much. I agree kids will be kids but seriously when I was that age I never acted that way. We were brought up to be accepting of all. After a recent conversation with my father he reminded me of ALL of the children in my neighborhood growing up that had issues and how they were always included with all the kids on the block. We looked out for them...Im not sure what has changed..My DD is 5 (PDD-NOS) entering Kindergarten and Im so nervous.... Im worried about her placement Ive chosen, her ability to socialize, follow rules...and how her peers will be with her. ... sooo much. She is a happy little girl and I cant help to want to hurt anyone who messes with her...lol
