Re: this is my killer dog :)
Let me tell you the story of my Large vicious dog. Last week when the kids were off from school we were going to visit my inlaws ( they live up state about 30 min from Canada) anyway we did go. so we went to the city for 3 days. We took the LIRR, it was Me, DH, DD, DS and our Large vicious dog. We get on at Ronkonkoma no one bothers us or says anything about the Large vicious dog, who was on a leash, sitting nicly with us.
We are at Mineol I think it was and the ticket lady says you have to have the dog in a bag... OK she comes back and says it again I said I don't have a bag... She RUNS away - maybe she was afraind of our Large vicious dog???? Next thing we know another ticket person come and says the dog has to be in a bag....ok its not stated on the LIRR web site?? Or on any of the schedules??? He ckes his schedule NOPE nothing. Tells my DH we are going to have to get off at Jamaica?? WHY??? Because the Large vicious Dog is not in a bag. SO I put the Large vicious DOg in a back pack.... That wasn't good enough.
To make an all ready long story short, we got KICKED off the LIRR in Jamaica (15min away from Penn) because of our Large vicious DOG not being in a carrier, where there is no rule publicized about it. The cops came and escorted us on to the next train...that is where our tax dollars are going.

He is really cute....
But I just found this on the LIRR website: Small pets are allowed on the trains, but they must be confined in closed, ventilated containers. Guide dogs for sight-impaired riders are permitted on all trains.
I am a BIG TIME dog lover, but think about this logicially, their bottom line is safety, and they don't know that the dog isn't going to hurt anyone and cleanliness, how do they know the dog isn't going to poop or pee on the train
Sorry you got kicked off tho

I love dogs but if the LIRR let them on not in carriers it would be crazy.

I think that's been on the site for a while. I know I saw it a long time ago after I saw someone holding their dog on the train and was wondering the official policy on it. I can see why they make them be in carriers. Can you imagine if everyone brought a dog on the train and it wasn't contained? It could get pretty crazy!! Not to mention the liability factor! A dog bites one person and the LIRR gets sued for not enforcing the rule they put in place. It's to protect them and the other passengers, and while your dog probably is the nicest dog around, I wouldn't take it personal

Re: this is my Large vicious dog :) NOw with story
This is not a new policy.
I know it's annoying but just think it this way. There are plenty of people who they say they have cute dogs and by some freak accident their dog bit someone (I have seen it many times!). They never bit but you just never know. It just happen that one time. And I love dogs! But dogs are animals and they can ge unpredictable.
