I feel for everyone involved...team, Colleagues, students, teammates.

But it took the EMS 10 minutes? Spectators started CPR? Where was an AED?

I just read that Bellmore HS (where the game was being played) did not have an AED. Chat Icon

That's a normal response time, especially if it was the volunteer fire department who responded. They don't have in-house crews waiting for calls.

He had more of a chance than most people get, having CPR immediately, and defibrillation within 10 minutes. I guess it just wasn't enough - or his death was not related to a heart attack. Chat Icon

It's not manditory for schools to have AEDs, but they should if it's int he budget. They were playing at a neutral site and there should have been three AEDs there, both teams playing should have had one and the host school should have had one. I'm an athletic trainer and I carry my AED everywhere, I can't imagine not having one with me. His death wasn't related to a heart attack though, it's horrible...

This is heartwrenching. I was a senior or junior in hs when he started working there. One of my best friend's had such a crush on him. I can't believe he was also a cancer survivor. So sad.Chat Icon Chat Icon for his familiy
