This is the 6th Hero killed in the line of duty in less than 72 hours / 3 by gunfire***
May you rest in peace PO John Falcone, you will be sorely missed. God Bless you and keep your family.
-From Law Enforcement Today -
Poughkeepsie, New York City Of Poughkeepsie Police Department Patrolman John Falcone End Of Watch: 02-18-11
Officer John Falcone, 44, was gunned down after he saved the life of a baby from a killer. At 1307 hrs., a call went out of reported gunshots at a train station parking lot. Ofc. Falcone, who was a block away, immediately arrived on... the scene where he found a woman shot in a vehicle. He then spotted a man with a small child in his arms who was pointing a gun and then ran from the scene. Ofc. Falcone gave chase, caught up, had brief words and a struggle ensued. Other Officers were able to grab the baby at which time the subject again began to flee but did not get far before Ofc. Falcone caught him. Another struggle occurred and was again being ordered to drop his weapon by the Officers but instead, the scumbag opened fire at near point blank range, where one bullet struck Ofc. Falcone in the head. The Cop Killer then shot himself. Officer John Falcone was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery. As hard as this Warrior fought, the injury proved to be too much and succumbed at 2105 hrs. A second Officer suffered a dislocated shoulder when he tackled the scumbag and after being treated, he is resting. The woman in the vehicle was the killer's wife. She also later died from her wounds. The POS killer, Lee Welch, 27, who was taken to another hospital, died of his wounds at 1410 hrs. The entire incident, from the moment the call went out to the time our Hero was gunned down took just five minutes. The investigation is ongoing.
The 3 year old little girl stayed in the custody of the Police who gave as much love as they could muster until relatives could come to pick her up. This young child is alive and will have the opportunity to grow into a caring adult because of the selfless actions of this man who Lived As Only A Hero Could and Died As Only A Warrior Dare.
Officer Falcone has been Saving, Serving and Protecting the People of the city of Poughkeepsie with Knowledge, Courage and Integrity for more than 18 years beginning his calling as a part-time dispatcher and a Police Officer for the Kent Police Department. During his tenure with CPPD, John received numerous awards and commendations including at least two Meritorious Awards for service in bringing high risk incidents to a resolve without injury while protecting the citizens from harm and at least one Exceptional Police Duty Award for yet again putting his life in between the wolves and the innocents. These commendations describe much of what this Hero was about and how he was dedicated and devoted to his work. Always the first to jump in without hesitation nor reservation nor regard for his own life if it meant saving that of another. A pleasure to be around and work along side of with his friendly and approachable demeanor, it was easy to call this man a friend and a Brother Of Blue that you could always count on to come running and back you up. Even when not in uniform, this True Blue Hero kept tabs on his citizens and neighbors, always keeping a watchful eye and open ear for the young ones and checking up on the elderly and those in need. You never felt 'alone' with John nearby. A fair man but tough when he needed be. A man who will be missed by so many but forgotten by few.
John leaves behind his parents. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Falcone family as well as to the Men and Women of the CPPD and the Kent PD all all whom had the privilege and pleasure of working by the side of our Brother. We also wish our Brother who injured his wing a speedy and full recovery. We pray you all lean on one another and find a healthy way to get through this. Thoughts and prayers also go out to the family of Jessica Welch, 28, who was killed and may we all hold her three year old and two other young daughters (5, 6) close to our hearts. (all three girls are now with Jessica's family)
Brother John, while you now patrol the streets of Heaven, may you continue your vigilant watch over us all as we carry on in the battle ... In Our Brother's Honor. We thank you for your service and for your sacrifice. Job Well Done Sir.
Rest In Peace Patrolman John Falcone #22 ... We have the watch from here. SALUTE!

Honestly, I don't get past reading
"End of Watch: 2-18-11"
and not start sobbing, because I know what it means.
