This is the stupidest Dear Abby I have ever read
Am I not getting this? Why in Gods name would anyone want an old, unrefrigerated sausage from 2004?????
DEAR ABBY: Honesty pays. I received a call today from a gentleman who had picked up a large cardboard box that I had left at the recycling center.
When he removed the Styrofoam "peanuts" to pack his merchandise, he discovered a large summer sausage from a well-known company. Instead of playing "finders keepers" and enjoying the sausage himself, he took the trouble to look at our address on the packing label and find our telephone number in the directory.
How fortunate for him that he was so ethical! The sausage had been a Christmas gift from 2004, which we had overlooked when we unpacked the box. It sat in a storage area, unrefrigerated, for a year when we decided to recycle. Had he munched on that morsel, he would surely have gotten his "just desserts."
Instead, he received a nice chocolate fudge cake from us as a reward for his courtesy. -- OVERHASTY RECYCLER IN NEW MEXICO
DEAR OVERHASTY: Yes, honesty pays. And the man received a sweet payoff for his virtue. Thank you for relating a morality tale we should all digest.

it is really strange but the sausage that she is talking about it like a pepperoni...and it doesn't need to be refrigerated!
I not saying that I would eat 2 y/o sausage but it has a lot of presevitives that will keep it good for along time!

Maybe I'm missing something, but even if the sausage was only a day old, it still was left out, why would they want it back and why would the original owner thing that he would consider eating it ????

It is more about the honesty of the man then the actual object.

this is what I was thinking. Just seems like she was saying how nice it was that someone went out of thier way to return something that didn't belong to them.

From how it is worded, perhaps they accidentally left the sausage in there when they got it . . . .

I too think this was really the case . . . . I do not get the impression they wanted that sausage back

Re: This is the stupidest Dear Abby I have ever read
okay definately strange, and why take the time out of your day to write a letter to Dear Abby unless of course you have nothing better to do.
And I'm sorry, if you are dropping boxes off and stuff like that, wouldn't you remove your personal information such as your ADDRESS and NAME from the box? Or am I the only paranoid one here?
