Re: This is us

I feel like drunk driving is an obvious option given his history with alcohol so I almost wonder if they're just doing this to throw us off with his real cause of death.
I said this to my mom tonight while we were theorizing. I predicted weeeeeks ago... the first time his drinking came up, that he was going to die in a drunken crash. Then I added to it that either Kate was with him & didnt stop him or he was going to pick her up from somewhere & that's why she blames herself.
But now that we're down to it, i don't think I was right. The ending of the last episode combined with the previews of next week... too obvious. This show won't give it away that easy. They'd never give a preview of a car full of beer cans only to let him die in a drunk crash next week. When I originally thought it up, it was going to be a shock scene where we see the crash first & later get the story about why he was drunk & where he was going.
There's more to it. I'm now thinking if it is a drunk crash, its on the way home after he finds out something bad. Or he makes it there safely & something bad happens in Cleveland? Or more likely, all of this was just a distraction...

i think Jack gets arrested for drunk driving. not sure if that leads anywhere tho.
and Kevin! how do you turn down Ron Howard!? BUT...hes got the show. It's going to be a success. Maybe there will be other opportunities later. And now he's starting to think like Jack...family first. so hopefully he will put Sophie first this time. I mean he did it for Randall opening night.

I was hoping that the critic actually showed up and writes a stellar review and they get picked up on Broadway allowing Kevin to stay in NY but then Kate and Toby are in LA by themselves?
I don't like the two coast thing

I think this too and that from then on he can't control his alcoholism. Kate always says that he was "sick".

I think something happens at the party and Kate calls Jack to come get her. Then maybe he gets hit by a drunk driver?

I think Jack's death happens later on.....they were talking about when he taught them how to drive....and if he's dropping them off at a party, they probably can't drive yet, so he still has to do that. And it'll be years after he taught them how to drive because they were saying how he loved to tell the story of Randall learning....so he had to have been telling that story for a while. I also don't think it'll be a car accident because they have fond memories of him in cars.... Just my theory.

Hmm. I just remembered Kate freaking out on the plane. Maybe he she convinced him to fly to a stop on Rebecca's tour and dies in a plane crash?
I was crying for most of this week's episode, I can't imagine what that episode will be.

I think he gets arrested for driving drunk and goes to jail. Rebecca has to come home and miss the tour and they end up separating. Jack turns to alcohol and kills himself in some sort of drunk accident. I think Kate blames herself because she initiated him to visit Rebecca the night he gets arrested and that starts his whole downward spiral.

Part of me doesn't think it will be that bc it's the obvious thing and this show does anything but the obvious.
Although I was expecting a note to Randall's wife in some way saying goodbye.
I think the twist is that the kids have no idea that Jack was drunk when the accident occurred. I bet Rebecca kept that from them.

Good point. I didn't even think of that. Now my theory is very shakey, but here it is anyway:
He didn't seem drunk to me when he called Kate. Maybe he had a couple but he seemed okay. So I don't think that's it. My thought was that when he got to Rebecca, he somehow gets into a fight with other guy and he hits his head and dies or something like that. OR something happens with Kate and he turns around to go home to help her out and something happens then. I don't think it's going to have anything to do with drinking.

I don't think so either - it's too obvious and as we know, anything but the obvious happens in this show.

On another note....what about Kevin and his latest plot twist? I love him and Sophie together, but....when Ron Howard calls....!?!?!
Actually, I don't like the Kevin/Sophie storyline at all. She took him back way too easily. Also, he lied to her because he did not come to NY for her. He pursued two other women before he went back to her and I think he's going to leave her again.

I do not think he was drunk when he made that call to kate. The one drink he had isnt drunk driving. He went in sat a the bar with that lady got uncomfortable, called kate and left.

So I finally watched last night. I'd been putting it off because I wasn't in the mood for the melodrama. I feel like its hitting it's goal of getting the audience to cry while lacking any substance. It's kind of becoming a one trick pony to me and honestly, just tell us how Jack freaking dies because I'm starting to not really care anymore. We know he's dead. Stop
Anyone else feel this way? I know everyone loves it but it's starting to irritate me.

This. I don't think there has ever been a smarter, more well written and just plain real show on tv.

I feel similarly.
There were a few nights that I wasn't in the mood for what I know is always going to be high drama and, lately, tears.
For me part of it is that it hits home at times because my father also passed away while I was in high school and watching Kate's emotions can get to me. Sometimes I just don't feel like getting a crying headache.
I'm still enjoying the show and I definitely care how he died but I also think it's silly to drag it out this long and they need to move on.
Also, I don't think it's any more or less well written than other good shows. I think they do a great job of combining drama with a little comedy and developing likable characters. That's it.

I think the first few episodes were great and I'm not going to give up on it yet. But the emotion of it is getting too predictable for me and it's almost starting to come off as cheesy. I also don't find it "real" at all.
I know I'm in the minority!

This is how I'm feeling lately. I like it. But I think it's needs a little something more. From what I've seen and read there's going to be a dozey of a cliffhanger. So...
And I've mentioned it before but I think Mandy Moore's acting is terrible. Im happy when she's not in a scene.
