This Is What Happened Yesterday At My 36 Week and 2 Day Appointment---VERYYY LONNNGGG

Hi,

I was supposed to have the appointment last night. I was out to lunch yesterday at Pasta Pasta in Port Jeff with my two friends and I started getting terrible cramps. I was thinking it was GAS (sorry TMI) so I walked around a bit and hoped it would pass. It wasn't and I can barely move. I was debating what to do and knew that I was only around the corner from my DR (in Port Jeff Station) as well as my hospital (St Charles). I decided to call my DR and they told me to come there. I figured that was better then going to the hospital since I was proably in FALSE LABOR. When I went to the Dr. I had to wait 30 min for the sono tech who wasn't due to arrive until 3:00. It was 2:30. I waited with my two friends in pain. I called my DH who rushed home from his job in Melville "just in case". When I had the sono done she said our little girl is 6lbs 3 oz. Up from 5lbs 3 oz two weeks ago. She said she is head down (as she has been for a while) and it facing upwards. She also said that I had double the amount of amniotic fluid. I was so worried but she said its probably nothing but if the DR tells me I am not in labor then this is a reason why I may be feeling this terrible "bloat".

I was sent into the waiting room after the sono and can you believe they had me waiting another 30 min to get in? TO ME, this was an emergency--I was scared and in pain and why on earth were they taking regular patience in and not squeezing me in between? I had NEVER had a bad feeling at my office or with the staff until last night. My DH got so ****** and said to a nurse as she called someone else in, "when are you going to take my wife in, she's in pain". The nurse said, when I have a room, we are very busy. But, ladies...shouldn't I have come first?

Anyway, once I went in my DR determined I am NOT in labor. I am a fingertip to 1cm dilated which was exciting. He said the amniotic fluid is so much(double the amount) so that if it was one week later at my appt and I was a full 37 weeks, (I just started 37 weeks) he would have probably sent me into the hospital and induced me due to this large amount of fluid. I am not into being induced for no reason. I believe in letting nature take its course. But of course if the baby is in danger then they have to do what they need to. He told me he isn't worried per say about the fluid (two weeks prior my fluid level was fine) but said I may break my water soon with all the fluid. I was like, WOW! So he wants me in again on Friday, I was going next Monday for my 37 week appt. They want to check me again.

He mentioned something like my fluid being 27 (forgot the metric unit he used). When I read on line it says at this time it should be up to a pint (32 oz). So wonder what he meant by 27---(what metric unit did he mean then). 27 certaintlly is less then a pint if thats it.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my story and maybe Chloe Brooke will be here soon!

PS. Any knowledge or experience with inducing a few weeks early, I am so nervous about that and if its safe!

Keri~

they should have taken you in first!!! i know if i another patient in the waiting room and seen you like that - i would not care if they made you go in first!!!!

sounds like you are almost there!!!!

i was induced at 39 weeks with my DD and had a great experience with it but i know everyone is different and feels differently on it.

good luck!!

It is measured in cm (I know weird considering it's fluid but they are measuring depth). Normal is between 10-20 so since yours is 27 you would be considered to have polyhydramnios (meaning excessive amniotic fluid)

oh my! i think they def. should have let you skip a few other patients- esp. since you were in pain!

but i am glad the dr. is not alarmed and everything seems to be ok!
good luck!

I hope you are feeling a lot more comfortable now. FYI- I had an OB appt on Monday and told my doc that I was either leaking or had increased clear discharge. He did a sono on me and told me that my amniotic fluid was a 15. He said that the normal fluid range is between 5 and 20. So, your 27 reading does show that you have more fluid than the 'norm.' Like you, I don't know what the number is directly quantifying [oz. vs. ml. or something else] all I know is the range he gave me. HTH!! Hang in there! Chat Icon Chat Icon Btw- I agree that you should have seen the doctor right away regardless of already having a sono. I would've been pisssed and raised holy helll!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
