It is a test to screen for gestational diabetes. Your numbers have to be at a certain level to "pass." If you fail the 1 hour glucose test you then have to go for the 3 hour.

it tests how your body processes sugar. if your body does not process sugars correctly, it can lead to certain complications during pregnancy.

I "think" generally 26-28 weeks, unless you have a family history of diabetes. My mom has diabetes, so I am taking it much sooner.
