This may be a stupid question but why don't you get your period while breastfeeding?
What is it about breastfeeding that keeps AF at bay?

Breastfeeding is basically a natural contraceptive (but it's not perfect!). It's because our bodies are not really able to sufficiently provide nutrition for 2 children (one OB the inside and one on the outside) at the same time. Nowadays, of course, things are a little different with supplements and prenatal vitamins, etc. but that is really the reason out bodies are "built" that way.

I BF my first exclusively for 1 year. He never had any formula at all. I got my period 7-9 weeks pp. I was one of the lucky ones to get my period back right away even though I BF.

I got my period back around 12 weeks both times! And both children I BF'd for 15+ months! Lucky me!!

Your estrogen levels are super low during breastfeeding, which is also why BFing been linked to the prevention of breast cancer.

My doc told me BFing is 97% effective against pregnancy for the first 6 mo. I got AF back after 8 mo so I guess he was on target with that one! It all has to do with hormones....

I am EBF my DD2, she has never even had a bottle and got my period back 3.5 months PP.

I got AF 3 months pp while exclusively BF'ing. I had the next one 49 days later... then got preggo with #2 at 6 months pp. I was all screwed up...
