This may spark some heated debate but

First let me say that I have always said that Mothers who breastfeed should be "allowed" to do it wherever they want
but the other day I was in a waiting room and this woman started to breastfeed her baby and she kept saying things like oh you are sooo hungry sucking so hard etc and I have to say I was a little uncomfortable because she kept saying to me look at him go......

well when she burped him she just LET HER BOOB HANG THERE WITHOUT COVERING IT and was trying to have a conversation with me
I was so uncomfortable
I really wish I wasnt but I was .....I feel bad about feeling this way too but I wanted to YELL cover that boob up

I am a breastfeeding advocate 100% but people that have no class while doing it annoy me too. Yes, it may be a natural thing for that mommy to do but it doesnt have to be a peep show for the rest of the world.Chat Icon

No debate. When I breastfed I made sure that I was covered at all times.

Same here...excellent analogy. Nothing wrong with the human body but I don't need to see it all hanging out.

I also plan to breast feed but my boobies are mine (And DH's Chat Icon ) only to see!
I also think it is a cultural thing as it seems that it is mainly Americans who are body conscious. In other cultures, it is perfectly acceptable to nurse in public (with the boobies hanging out).

I remember when I was 7 years old and my parents had an open house at our house when they were selling. There was a woman who came in to look at the huose who was sitting there in our living room nursing her baby. I was traumatized as she didn't bother covering up! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: This may spark some heated debate but

I think that is offensive to other people around you. Besides that fact that i dont need to see your boob- most boobs after giving birth arent that cute. I know mine werent and they would be the last part of my body that i would be showing off.

That is disgusting and very direspectful to her own body!

Breast feeing is a beautifull natural thing and the best thing you can do for your baby but it doesn't mean you completely lose respect for your own body and just let it all hang out infront of people you never mean in a public place.

I breastfed for 14 months and enjoyed every second but I never lost a sence of dignity and respact for my own person. So no bebate for me either! That's a no-no in my book!

Now I used to BF in public all the time, but I was very discreet. And her passing those comments would have grossed me out too.

Re: This may spark some heated debate but

Hi, I'm new to this forum..

I read your post and had to laugh. I recently went to a wedding in Boston.. a HUGE wedding.. about 300 + people. Anyway, DH and I are seated at the table with one of my cousin's good friends, her DH and their 10 month old daughter. We're all about to be served dinner and this woman says, "Oh look (baby's name), it's time to eat." Then she proceeds to whip her breast out at the table and starts feeding her daughter. We were like Chat Icon Trying really hard to ignore her, we try to eat. A few minutes later, it's time for the baby to try to burp before she resumes eating, so this woman begins burping the baby on her shoulder, with the opposite boob just ... THERE... and she starts telling some story about when her daughter was younger... and asking questions and nobody wants to answer b/c then we'd have to look at her.. people at other tables are looking over and whispering.. OMG it was so uncomfortable. This woman and her family are from Ireland and apparently it's totally acceptable to breastfeed in public. Chat Icon

I fully believe in being able to BF in public BUT you must respect others around you. Even being a BFing mom that situation would have made me SOOOO uncomfortable!!

Re: This may spark some heated debate but

I totally understand that your baby has to eat when its time to eat...but thats no reason to be flashing your boobs for the world to see. There are plenty of ways to be discret
