This takes the cake!
I flipped out today. DS is scheduled to be dropped off home at 3:16. Day 1 he was 50 minutes late. Day 2 he was about 10 minutes late and the bus driver said that would be the time he gets home every day. Ok, no problem. Day 3 he was on time for the new time. Today he got home at 4:40!!! I was livid! I called the bus company at 3:40 and was told the initial bus broke down before it got to school, so they sent a new bus and was running late. I tried calling the school to see what time the bus picked up so I could guesstimate when he'd be home. No one answered. I called the bus company again to see where the bus was, it was still doing drop offs s few minutes from my house, but they put me directly to the school principal. I lost it, asking when he was picked up from school, why was I not notified, etc... I then lodged a complaint with the bus company. He finally got home, all hot and sweaty because they had them sitting outside waiting for the bus for 45 minutes and then he was on the bus for another hour and 10 minutes. I am still burning over this. Had they called I would have picked him up and avoided all of thus grief.

Re: This takes the cake!
That is absolutely insane! Your district should have better communication with the parents if something like this is going on. What a nervous wreck all of the moms must have been! I am nervous when the bus is 15 minutes late!
In my district if a bus is late we get a call from the superintendant or the building principal. They record a message and it goes out to every cell phone and house phone number registered with the district. We can always tell when we are getting a call from the district bc the house phone and all the cells in the house ring at the same time. My DH always texts me from work to make sure that I got the message.
Yesterday there was a bus that was going to be late bc there was a small electrical fire on the bus. They called to let everyone know what bus # it was, and estimated that the kids would get home 15 minutes late, and said that noone was injured.
We've also gotten calls when there were problems at the HS, middle school, etc. They send them out district wide.
That kinda phone call would be helpful in this scenario!
Maybe it is something that you can bring up at a board meeting to get them to improve communication!
