Those electronic book reader things....
I've always been a big lover of books. I love the smell of libraries, of books....I love when books become dog-eared, and the act of holding a book, etc.
I know there are Nooks and such now, but I just feel like I'd missing the familiarity and comfort of holding a book.
Did anyone feel this way and then convert?
Or is this what is stopping you from purchasing one?
I should also mention I have an iPod and rarely use it..... I still buy CDs.

This is (was) me exactly. For goodness' sake, I'm a high school English teacher!
However, my parents bought me a Nook for Christmas and I LOVE IT! There was absolutely NO transition for me. I still like to buy the classics to have in my personal library, but otherwise, I'm loving the Nook. I find a read a lot more and the fact that you have instant access to new books is awesome!

Re: Those electronic book reader things....
DW loves the Nook I got her for Christmas. At any one point, she has one book in the bathroom, her Nook in her pocketbook, a book in the bedroom, and sometimes one or more in other areas.
Just because you have a Nook, doesn't mean you can't or won't still read paper books. It actually may mean you read MORE paper books, since you'll be exposed to more books with the e-book.
Most of DW's ebooks so far are either from the library, or the many on-line free book repositories. I think the only ones she's bought were because she had a gift card anyway....

Re: Those electronic book reader things....
I did feel the same way until I got an e-reader. I have the iPad. I do not want to leave the house with out it. I have over 100 books loaded on it and read EVERY where. I do not miss books. I still go to the library and get a book if I do not have it on the virtual book shelf.
I *thought* I was going to miss a book in my hand but I don't. It is the action of reading that really appeals to me.

Re: Those electronic book reader things....
i am exactly like you! however, my habit got so bad, my three floor to ceiling bookshelves were double stacked! that's when i compromised:
DH bought me a kindle for mother's day and i use that to read books i don't really NEED to own. (ie. chick lit, things i've never read and not sure if i want them, classics) I figured that way i can read all different types, have all the staples and not have to look for space for it! plus it's easier to carry than a hardcover AND DH is using it as well. (he's a computer guy and prefers articles, this gets him into books while giving him a similar experience)
however, my FAVORITE authors (i have about 4-5) i ALWAYS buy the real book! this makes them more money and i get the feel of a real book. (still not too good for my bookshelves but it's a start!)
would a compromise work for you?

I feel/felt like this too... until I got a Kindle. I looovvveee it, but I use it mainly when I'm commuting or travelling to cut down on the amount of stuff I have to schlep.
When I'm at home I read actual paper books.
