Those familiar with Shea (not sports related)
We have tickets to the Billy Joel concert on the 16th.
My sister broke her foot and is in a wheelchair and will still be in it for the concert.
Handicap seating is sold-out, so we have to figure out an alternative.
Does anyone know if there are elevators and how high up Section: UPR 20/J is?
(I can't really tell by the seating chart online.)
I'm not sure what to do and the Shea people weren't that helpful.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Re: Those familiar with Shea (not sports related)
I found this on www.nymets.com under a-z guide. HTH
Handicapped Access Wheelchair patrons should enter Shea Stadium through the Press Gate located between Gates B and C. The Press Elevator is available to take wheelchair patrons to the Field Level or any other level they wish to access. While most wheelchair seating is located on the Field Level, the Diamond Club Restaurant, Grill Room, Diamond View Suites, and Left Field Terrace are all accessible by wheelchair patrons holding appropriate tickets.
Wheelchair seating at Shea Stadium is available in three areas of the Field Level concourse; behind home plate, in left and right field and on the Field Club platforms on the 1st and 3rd base side, subject to availability. A maximum of four tickets may be requested for any one game (including up to three companion tickets for one wheelchair). Chairs will be provided for companions. Orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability. Fans interested in wheelchair seating should call the Mets Customer Relations Office at 718-565-4360 for information and assistance in purchasing tickets. Subject to availability, tickets are also sold day-of-game at the counter in the Shea Stadium Ticket Office.
For further details and information on handicapped accessibility, please click here.

Thank you for looking. I saw that too.
I called the office and there is no handicap seating available, which leaves me back to my original question - what to do as an alternative.

I would just keep calling Shea until you get someone with a brain. I had to do that once when I needed to exchange tickets for a company event.
Unfortunately some of the reps just try to get you off the phone.

Re: Those familiar with Shea (not sports related)
i believe there are elevators, but they only go as high as the first row of each section. Once you get to that first row, you have to climb stairs to get to your seats.
So, the short answer to your question is that there are no elevators or ramps that would take you right to your seat unfortunately
Not really sure what to say as an alternative.
Dumb suggestion, but could someone carry her up?

I'm thinking that's what we will have to do. Get her a cane and use my dad and her fiance to support her up the steps.
Not fun, but she's determined not to miss the concert.

yea the elevator will go up to the upper level.. but then you have to go up stairs to the row you are at. the upper level steps are a little steep so she must be careful . row J is not too bad.

if possible, i'd try to get there early, so she can get up without alot of people there
and when it's over, you may have to wait till the crowd fizzles out to start the descent
and check out the ushers and see if they can help. Usually with a little grease of the palm, they can be quite helpful

I personally would arrive early to the concert and speak with security - see if there's anywhere else they can place you the day of the concert.
To sit in her purchased seat, she would have to be carried or assisted up several skinny steps, and there is little to no leg room in those seats..I'm afraid she'll be very uncomfortable.

Re: Those familiar with Shea (not sports related)
Getting there early is a good idea.
She has MS, so she's not the most stable person in the world to begin with and this is making everything 10 times worse.
We have handicap parking sticker, so I think we'll try to get there as early as possible, park, eat and head into the stadium and hope it's not too bad.

actually - shorty is right, the steps are very straight and narrow and it's really tough to get around
plus, god forbid, you ever had to evacuate, you'd be in a tough spot
i'd say either she should miss it (easier said than done), or speak to security when you get there
